They tried to work with the other leagues, it became a dlck measuring contest. One league tried to build for international, one tried to build for college. Understandably, more wanted one built for college.

So, we churn out college players and not international players.

When was the last time we lost so badly? It wasn’t a necessity to change so badly bc… “if it any broke!” Well now it’s broke but we must see it on the biggest of stages to really get a picture of how broke it is. Truth be told you need a very special combination of athleticism and knowledge and Europe understands this. USA is still to caught up in having child prodigies and insta fame. I am sure there are a combination of 25 women out there to win but the powers that be must be able to admit they got it wrong in order to fix it

Disagree. Both were for college (hence the multitude of coaches at the showcases).

One tried to build for international play and the other was mad as the newbie was cutting into their profit (using high school play as an excuse).

They never tried to work together. US Soccer wanted the control and ECNL wanted the $$.

USA wants a story. The better players maybe with an even better story (because they were not given same easy opportunities) don't fit the narrative.

Vlad won't pick Balcer anymore because she called him out for being a dk. Not retaliation though right?

Unfortunately I think the rest of the world understands soccer better than we do. When I watched the past few games both at the U-20 and senior level it seems like we are playing checkers against people playing chess.
So on point. I felt the exact same way when I watched the U20’s. It was quite painful. And then the US team against England and seeing the English composure - setting up the play not rushing, finding the next play, anticipating their teammates moves. In the US the kids are taught to run for every ball never stop, be quick, don’t take the time think. Look at us now. Fools.

There are many reasons why the USA Women will have big question marks going into next summers World Cup. Starting with the coach and his tactics and strategy of what formation to use. The midfield that is 2 steps slower than anyone else. And a defense that looks like a hot mess with a questionable goalie who always seems nervous and uncomfortable. The player selection with too many older players is also a big hinderance. No time to be sentimental especially towards Rapinoe who is a major defense liability. You also cannot minimize what players like Carli Lloyd, Julie Ertz, Amy Wambach, Sam Mewis and Hope Solo brought to this team. This group does not play with any intensity as a team. Judging from this past summers European Cup this USA team is not nor should they be favored to win another championship.

Agree. I think the only chance they have to win would be:

Forwards: Alex Morgan, Morgan Weaver (she will not get called but she’s a great team connector), C. Press (she’s the big missing link)

mid: Ertz (likely not enough time), S. Mewis, Lavelle, Macario

defense: Sauerbaunn, Dunn and I’d move Horan back- can’t name anyone else
goalie: Sheridan but she need to become a citizen

Back to the drawing board for the rest

The Olympics were a preview for the WC. They won't be bringing home a trophy. The world has nearly caught up while we have flat lined. Then there's questionable coaching, questionable roster picks, general USSF ineptitude + all the other countries wanting to knock off the the long running champion. Chemistry and heart can be difference makers and we don't have that

Here is the reality. When you take into account that being Uber athletic in the sport of soccer is not a requirement. Clearly being a great athlete helps but the game is much more based around soccer iq with technical ability. So if all countries produce decent athletes which obviously they do it comes down to the rest.

Who do you think does a better job of training soccer players? Man City, Real Madrid, Benfica, Bayern or some club in the states? Obviously we aren’t set up like those countries are and the results now that they have bridged the head start will speak for themselves.
Tough to blame anyone other then the win at all cost clubs that don’t actually teach the game just to play for the wins.

There are so many kids in this country that can play soccer with technical ability and have a high IQ. The people choosing the teams need to be able to pick these people out. Yes in the past the teams were picked to simply be more athletic but that won’t work going forward and that’s evident. So they need to simply choose wiser.

Correct. They need to 1) get new scouts 2) develop a new evaluation system 3) educated the scouts on the new system so they know what to look for 4) stop the nonsense politics

Agreed we have the players and athletes but do a poor job identifying and then also developing young talent. Most of the training really takes place at their clubs, not NT camps etc, along with what a player does in their own. Face it, some clubs that are the only accessible ones for some players aren't good and/or their league not highly competitive. Not that I have solutions lol, but it is a problem.

Great post. True development in the USA is virtually nonexistent compared to the rest of the world. Pay to play and win at all costs is definitely the culprit.

When I read “true development” 99% of the TS parents have no clue what development even means when it comes to soccer. And, then comparing to the rest of the world they offer no proof of their statement. Just an excuse to put down USA soccer with no facts. Europe, South America, Latin America and Africa are in their infancy when it comes to growth in women’s soccer yet you have TS parents who think the USA have fallen behind. The truth is the USA system of development has been the “case study” for women's soccer around the world for coaches and players who came here to learn and get experience. The development argument by TS parents is a lazy argument to make themselves sound relevant.
