I think Spain had better athletes and they had a good (not necessarily very good) soccer iq. They did not over dribble, they were better defending up and down the field, they stayed close to their US mark to take them out of rhythm, and most importantly they took shots.
crazy to think that’s essentially Spains B team.

Not even. A "B" team trains and works out together; has history; familiarity. This was a team that came together for this event only. These are the replacements.

the regulars may have become the new "B" team.

I personally think Rapino is very fit but doesn’t really like soccer anymore. She absolutely will not help defend and Gives off a bully vibe which likely has crushed the team chemistry. I only pick this up by watching her body language and how she interacts with others. Her IQ isn’t on point at all. Seems everyone is scared of her.

I don’t think the 4-3-3 is doing the team any good. I feel like it’s a bit antiquated and they seem to be forcing that formation of play at every level of their national teams. Even Pep is seemingly using it less and less these days.

She used to be a fan fav. Had a great sense of humor. Was confident but not an ego. At least she came across that way.

To me merely being fit does not equate to athletic. It means you work out and eat properly. I know plenty of unathletic people who diet and walk. Does not mean they are athletic. Means they have a routine.

I equate athleticism with explosiveness, agility, great vert, having upper body strength, being an all around sports person, an athlete.

Likely US soccer will give her a job like they do many that age out.

I think we can safely say that when we talk about professional athletes when we say fit we mean in form and able to keep up with other professional athletes for the duration of the game.

We have too many athletes and not enough soccer players....it is a product of the club system here in US that needs to win at U10 to attract more paying customers, so they put the biggest most athletic kid at striker and have everyone else kick it long.
So they progress up and the perhaps smaller more skilled (Rose L types) get left off as they can not "hold off" or knock over defenders in that style of play. So you get lots of stars who take bad shots because they are the star instead of making the extra pass to get a quality look....noboby wants to be a role player...too much insta & tiktok !!

I continue to laugh about all theses issues. Solutions were trie to be implemented but the paying customers didn’t want it. Do here we are

Until these results happen in the WC and Olympic stage, the team will be provided excuses. During the broadcast, it was constantly mentioned how the Yates report psychologically exhausted the players, how many starters were missing, how some are still getting back into shape, how the older players are mentoring the new players etc…….Then you add in the excuses about the 20U crashing out of WC but those results don’t matter. The 17U are up next to showcase the future but as many comment those results don’t matter. Meanwhile a Spain keeps winning at the younger levels, elevates players and then a B team handles the US but it’s only a friendly so it doesn’t matter.

It will only resonate if it happens in the WC and Olympics. It’s tough to change a system that has produced so much success but it does need to evolve and certainly the youth game is contributing to the slow decline at the national level.

Coaches continue to coach the creativity out of the players by systematic play and a focus on winning at all costs. High School and College do nothing for long term development and “Elite” club soccer needs to attract new customers by winning. The system is set up to showcase players for college and not to develop world class players.

Let’s see what the next year brings.

Losing is sometimes the best thing to happen. Everyone is constantly talking about how the USWNT choses the wrong type of players. When you fail you need to change and get better. They have a year to figure something out. The men will never be able to compete, hopefully the women still have a chance to stay competitive in the world of soccer. Unfortunately I think the rest of the world understands soccer better than we do. When I watched the past few games both at the U-20 and senior level it seems like we are playing checkers against people playing chess.

This sport and the system governing is screwed up right now top to bottom. Why do we want our kids in this mess anymore? Enough.

OK, so they tried and nobody wanted it. What do you suggest they do differently?

Are you talking about the DA and GDA? It was mismanaged. Try again but keep it intentionally small and work with the other leagues not make it oppositional.
