What type of commitment does your club require?

What type of commitment does your club require? I am guessing it depends on the level. My son is on a 2011 EDP Premier-II team and we never know who will be showing up at the games. This is the age where they seem to be more set in positions. I find it very frustrating. My kids wants to be competitive, but when you are scrambling to figure out who is playing where (even goalie), it doesnt form a team like atmosphere.

I think it is very unfair to the other players

By 2011 commitment should be close to 100% for the rostered players. Your coach should be reiterating that, if they aren’t it’s a problem. if this is just a team that a kid is on because his friends are there or it’s his second sport, you’ll always have commitment issues. Most 2011 teams are practicing 2-3 times a week, league and tournaments year round with 100% participation with few exceptions.

yea, that is my opinion. I think they made some exceptions on our team for some "better players" that also wanted to play another sport. I would think you should average 2.5/3.0 practices a week (come on, they are still kids) and 95% of the games (ok, Grandmom's 100tb birthday or something like that should be allowed). I am guessing at 2011 kids they are probably doing more tournaments and families are use to being free on holiday weekends and they might not know they are coming up. But the 2010's should know!!

If your team is acting more like a town travel team it's time to find another team. For that level and cost players that aren't making it to all practices and games should be docked playing time. That usually stops the behavior (after parents get pissy about their super star losing PT of course). Making exceptions for the studs never sits well with all the other player show how up all the time and put in the work.

btw it's not that I'm against playing multiple sports and I wish there wasn't so much pressure to chose at an early age, but it's there. In trying to do so there will always be conflicts. Families have to prioritize. If you're trying to play at a decently high level then the commitment should be there. If you can't, drop your kid down. If you try and they lose PT, then so be it. Consequences.

Full participation in everything on schedule or a very good reason why you aren't their.

pay full - pay extra to off season training - make sure to give gift(gift card or cash only) to coach after each season.
