Current NJYS rule states "second touch", but I swear I saw something that read more like opposing team had to wait until first attempt at the ball. The rule notes stopped ball being in play, but I'm also looking for a missed touch or even ball close enough that technically it is possessed by defender. Of course I can't find that clarity now and the rule itself lends itself to "gaming" through 1) fake touches or 2) running along side the ball. Was hoping the rule would just change to pressure starts when goalie releases or goal kick is taken as there is no Gray area there and a lot less confusion on everyone's part.

There are no real answers. The kids at a certain age are overwhelmingly at a disadvantage to the defenders rushing at them. They can’t connect long enough passes or have the soccer iq as a team to move and beat the pressure. You will have a few teams who have a couple of really great ball handlers who once in a while can weave their way through the pressure or a girl who can blast the ball 25 yards. But in both of those cases it really results in poor soccer. Just my opinion. Maybe it just means we are rushing kids into games they can’t play and should still be focusing on skill development?

The NJ Youth Soccer website has this, which seems really clear to me…
When the goalkeeper has the ball in his or her hands during play from the opponent, the opposing (now defending) team must move behind the building line until the ball is put into play. Once the opposing team is behind the build out line, the goalkeeper can pass, throw or roll the ball into play (punts and drop kicks are not allowed on 7v7 fields). After the ball is put into play by the goalkeeper, the opposing team can cross the build out line and play resumes as normal. The opposing team must also move behind the build out line prior to a goal kick and may only cross the build out line once the ball has left the penalty area.

It depends on who is reffing the game.
Teach your kids to spread out wide.
1st pass to the side then up the sideline.
midfielder should be back to the sidelines heals near the sidelines. Reactive & go.
If it goes out of bounds that’s ok.
No passing across the mouth of the goal
