    Club vs HS

Club coaches, please stop telling all your kids they are too good to play HS. Might be true for a very select few, but most aren't even the best kids on their HS teams.

HS coaches: Playing 3 games a week and training the rest of the time with sprints while just playing the “starters” until exhaustion or injury is a complete waste of time and does nothing for the players. Stop living vicariously through your players.

Its on the NJSIAA that there are 3 games per week. Also how is playing 7 games in a weekend any better? And most of the training on 3 game weeks is recovery not sprints.

I believe the refs don't see half the fouls they should see. They can't keep up with the speed of the game and they only have two on each side there are too many flagrant penalties overlooked and some season ending injuries due to the lack of enforcement. Local rivals tend to be a more physical game rather then using a skilled play books. Club soccer has players that are better at understanding of the game and not playing several sports just for a letter to pin on jackets. Soccer is the focused sport with hopes of playing in college. HS is a mix of players with little to no talent going up against those with tremendous talent and the issue with regards to injuries is profound in HS varsity ball

2 man ref system for a start. No where else on the f****n planet does that. Should be illegal.

Couldn't agree more. its a terrible system and most of the refs I've seen hardly move which makes it worse. They tryin to make calls from the other side of the field or most of the times don't make a call at all

I agree not enough refs. There should be a number pit together that each player pays for the refs. Maybe making a decent paycheck will retain the better ones and add to those who want to learn by being a side ref. We all know that offsides is a huge problem ley alone the cheap fouls that are missed too.

Rivalry games usually have 3 refs.

I have seen it both ways with coaches for HS and club saying the other doesn't matter. To some degree they are correct. For most clubs, the ones with track records of getting any college scholarship, they should be looked at more favorably while the clubs that are doing local league or low level EDP only serve as a playing time. For HS, if you are playing playing varsity for a power house school with direct connections to a college program then it does warrant a thought on club. Both are technically mute points though as top level NJ clubs don't play during HS season.

My take on HS is that it is for fun if your kid is looking to go to college and play. Colleges don't attend 99.999% of HS games and they don't really care about the footage as HS has way to many "varsity" players that either don't play club at all or play on low level club teams.

Daytime games make it very difficult to schedule 3man games. Not enough refs, period, and fewer are getting trained and sticking with it.

Every school in NJ...Ds team and friends from her clubs team all do the same thing. Every game starts play 90% and might have 2-4 subs that come in during the entire game. Doesn't matter if it is a close game or blowout.

My kids school is totally 21st century. Everyone plays and even makes the team/a 4th year player/senior who has been a 3 year program participant no matter how good the underclassman may be you still automatically make V senior year. Now that is competition for you and some of the reasoning why they will never win another State title.

There are games the whole starting unit doesn't play.
