Ok. So how does it look when YOUR product is 7th in the Big10 and loses to Brown, an Ivy that practices less, has high academic standards and rarely gets the "cream of the crop" type player?

Have you looked at the Rosters of the IVY’s? The vast majority of the student-athletes had multiple offers from top teams including P5 conferences. They chose the Ivy’s with no athletic scholarships over athletic scholarship money from great programs. Before you diminish the Ivys you should look at the rosters. Not only are they Ivy smart but some of the best ECNL players in the country.

Where did I diminish them? You know what is amazing? How people read what they want to. That and the fact that so many people lay claim to having the "best ECNL players". its gone from RU to the Ivys now. Add that to the fact that the Ivys have a heavier workload, less assistance AND practice less and you quickly realise that most people have no idea what it takes to be a really good soccer player. What you did in the ECNL is irrelevant to College. Players get better, worse, fitter, develop other interests, happy, sad, change majors, make friends etc etc etc AND are expected to perform to play. You dont just extrapolate the ECNL days into the College world. P5 as a measure of womens soccer quality is beyond misleading. Im happy for every woman that wants to go to College who does, whether they play a sport or not, but this "we are the best" stuff is silly. The best are few and far between in this system because its not designed around soccer.

I agree with this ^^^ I will also add that women's college soccer is totally different than Mens College football. People keep talking Rutgers being power 5 but the reality is they are there because of the football market. The womens soccer program is lucky to be along for the ride (and actually are good not like Rutgers football) The Rutgers football team is absolutely terrible and with the changes happening in Big 10 they could get the boot. That means no more power 5 soccer

Ah, no. While many are very good players, most couldn't sniff the roster of a top P5 program. Most Ivy league play is nothing near top P5 programs. That's why you won't find many in the 50 in any given year, let alone going far in playoffs

So. You sell a product to young players and paying parents. Play for the best, PDA. If you, the director of coaching, do not choose YOUR product for YOUR college team, what message does it send to the sheep?

Of course. It looks bad. Didn't RU get ousted by Central CT a few yrs back in 1st round too? The poster was just explaining a possible reasoning in why MO continues to shop sitting on the club practice bench.

As demonstrated this yr, RU will likely continue to struggle because their best coach is now at UMd.

You realize that the toughest part about being on and playing for an Ivy is getting in. They do get help like all D1 students get (study halls, a little more flexibility with assignment timelines, etc.). And you can get academic money vs athletic money. How do I know? I am a product of their environment. And it has gotten much better since I laced up for them.

And absolutely agree with this we are the best stuff. Great players go all over. And great in high school and also great in college most times comes with boosts from the coaches. Many boosted do not translate to pro very well. They are used to the safety net which disappears.

Absolutely agree. With UCLA and USC (and others) now joining, RU football had better improve considerably to stay in and keep the other sports in the P5 $$. And RU does not get a lot of the football money right now. The lion's share go to the better B10 football programs which dribbles down to all the other sports at those schools; which translate into facilities, equipment, travel, etc.

the problem is posters claiming such high level elite status for the RU program - it is NOT elite, as they finished 7th in the Big10, and lost in the 1st round to an Ivy.

and frankly they don't seem to play a great brand of soccer either, with skill, game intelligence, etc., perhaps this reflects the club training (or lack thereof) they are getting thru the earlier soccer development years when focus should not be on winning...
