When you ask what other NJ college is better are you speaking sport? If the purpose of university is education than I might lean Princeton over Rutgers. Sport is an activity that unceremoniously ends very quickly for most kids. My advise to any young athlete is to leverage your talents to get you into the best school and best school doesn’t always equate to a sport prowess.

That is the goal for most soccer families - going to a school that is a notch above where they might have without soccer. Even better if you get a few $ to play. RU may be a great academic fit for many players but a step down for others. Don't go down just to play soccer unless it's the only possible way to play for college. The school and just being a D1 athlete helps land you interviews, not what the team's RPI was. And some companies don't care about athletics at all. Once you've worked two years NONE of it matters - job performance does.

What I know for sure is that the Ivy League athletes still watch each other back. Most of them are still in contact a years after playing together. They always make the former teammates are taken care of if necessary. And most of them are very successful or from very rich background.
Anyway. in my opinion attending one of those schools is not the same as attending school your state university.

My family was fortunate to have those choices because my daughter had opportunities from a few colleges. I agree with the premise that if you can use the soccer component to get into a better academic college than that’s the most important decision you should make looking towards the end game of life after you graduate. We know families who went with strong soccer programs and weaker academics as well as the opposite of choosing better academics. What’s interesting is those who went with better academics got more athletic scholarship money than those who went with soccer being their primary focus. For the vast majority like myself it came down to my financial situation. Playing instate would cost less and get some athletic scholarship or choose a college that we could afford as a family along with some athletic scholarship. This is the deciding factor for most families.

If you are referring to Stockton University women's soccer this is hilarious. They were horrible this past season and the coach loves players who turn the ball over consistently. No need to pass to a teammate, no need to maintain possession, no need to dribble with your head up.

I am sad my kid isn't playing anymore but really not sad I don't have to watch that team/coach play again.

For good soccer/D3 programs look at TCNJ, Ramapo, Montclair if the kid wants to stay local.

Also some good D3 programs over in PA/not far also.

It’s a great rule and glad financially that works for you. Unfortunately, many families have to make choices when it comes to making those decisions financially.

That is completely understandable. It is a tough decision for sure. Anyway, I would recommend to not give up especially if the kid is in addition to being an athlete, a good student.
Even Ivy's schools, who don't give the athletic scholarships, will find a way to help a kid to pay school tuition.
One thing I know, my family is screwed, we are not rich enough to not care about tuition, but not poor to receive any financial help. So, we are paying 100%. Joy of being middle class.
