yes, and also they should be learning how to move and think on the field, take risks versus just going with the familiar play, be creative, practice leadership skills, basically become more well-rounded players. This does not come from just hammering the ball into the net every 2.5-5 minutes because it's easy and you can. The prior poster is associating a mercy rule weakness. It's more about maintaining opportunities for development & practicing good sportsmanship in lopsided contests. Winning at this age is not all that meaningful, but taking every opportunity to learn is- those w's will not always be this easy. As for the "everyone gets a trophy" and sheltering kids comments, that pretty much ends by U9 in club ball, not really a factor.

Maybe, just maybe if the time that your kids spent scoring useless goals was used to develop team plays and individual skills your team would not lose the game that actually counts.
What a bunch of bullies that cave to the first toughest opponent your team is.

No one wants participation trophies since the 90's. And no one is suggesting to stop scoring. But make it a challenge at least to get some benefit out that annoying drive to Tuckahoe. Run some combinations, use your backs to practice creating new looks up the field, give your keeper some footwork practice, heck maybe even make a few unforced errors to run transitions or practice positional support. And you probably won't see 18-0 decisions. I saw one of those games, and there was really none of that, coach was just sitting there kinda watching it happen.

exactly. just another symptom of the short-sighted "me" culture of immediate gratification and ego stroking we have here. kind of hilarious the PP is aligning their ideals with european or south american systems. we are probably the only morons that would brag on social media about a double HT our 10 year old scored in a 18-0 game, that's an embarrassing waste of time anywhere else.

Funny thing, they lost next game, all of sudden the big score machine can’t score more than one goal. Fraud coach and club.
