Yea, but that doesn't mean just because you are a D1 school that you are also a top school. I looked at the commitments from PDA girls this year, and there are maybe 4 schools there that I would be proud for my kid to go to (I understand others have different standards, but in my family they are pretty high). And My husband and I graduated 3 of the ones that are NOT in that 4.

Many D1s are big and may have some name recognition, but they definitely are not all "top" schools. Western Colorado? Central Arkansas? Plenty of D3s kick their butts on academics, and even some of the lowest D1 programs would lose to top D3s (granted, the depth in D3 isn't far but the top ones have some solid programs). In that top 25 D3 there's Weslynan, MIT, Hopkins, U Chicago and other top schools. Plenty of soccer dads would give their left nuts to have their kids go there.

As a parent, the traveling I do with my daughter is enjoyable. The time is coming when she isn't going to want to be with Dad. Some of the best moments her and I have had have been traveling to and from games/tournaments.

Probably would be even better if she was on a #1 team like the MF Shore 2009 team. I have to imagine being one of those fathers is like being a rock star, everywhere you go people want to meet you, tell you have special you are, etc.

Of course. I was responding to someone's post who suggested their kid wasn't going to play D1 but was looking forward to studying at a top school, and I simply pointed out that most "top schools" are D1; so the implication is why play the soccer recruiting game if most of the top schools she would want to go to have soccer programs she wouldn't have a shot of making a roster at? If your goal is to attend Princeton, Stanford, Duke, Georgetown or other colleges of that academic standard, and there's no chance of getting recruited for soccer at those programs, why play club soccer? There are only a handful of D3 schools with that kind of academic reputation: MIT, Johns Hopkins, Carnegie Mellon, Washington U, Williams, Amherst, Tufts, Wesleyan, Swarthmore, Pomona, UChicago, a few others....a very small list...and that list does recruit at the ECNL/GA level too, so it's not like getting recruited to those soccer programs is easy. The idea that there are "plenty" of strong academic D3 schools at that level is incorrect.

My kid is on the Shore 2009 team. We don't mind the travel, we've doing it for years now. One of the advantages we have is we don't pay for the club, uniforms, or additional costs, so the traveling isn't thay bad for us. The club also throws us a room so the only real expense we have is just the travel. Even food at the team dinners is covered for us. That's one of the perks of veing at the Shore location. RT knows what he has and does what he needs to - to keep us happy. Why would we want to leave?

You have it right. My kid is in U16 and we are getting close to that time where she wont want to be with me as much and thats ok, but for now I enjoy that we still have the adventures. The times in the car and at the hotels and getting dinner have been some of the best and as much as club soccer can frustrate and cost, i will miss it in a couple years when it is over.
