Town Club Illegal Activities

What would you do? My town club does a ridiculous amount of illegal things. I don’t want to be petty but as a new coach I am kind of scared of the things they want us to do and encourage. My husband works for a large bank and I’m a state worker. I cannot have my name attached to illegal things even if it’s minir and relatively small things. And my husband as well must sign a code of ethics every year for work and as the team treasurer, he is liable.
Years ago the town board treasurer stole almost half a million dollars from the club. The same people who were on the board then are on the board now. I would think they are being watched but the board doesn’t seem to care. They encourage us to fundraise with illegal games and even promote defying the state law.
They hold casino days with no permits. They have tournaments with raffles that are not licensed. Hell they even fix their 50/50s every year.
I don’t want to be a baby but I am a brand new coach and it’s scary that if I don’t do these types of things, my team will pay more by not having the funds the other teams get.
I have confronted the board and asked how they can do these things illegally and they always say “you can do it- no one checks”. I’m just at a loss. What would you do?

How does one steal half a million $ from a town club? I'm not even sure my town's full operating budget between intown and rec is that much for a year.

Besides that I'm opposed to some things that go on at my club and lack of transparency on things that could show favoritism to certain teams or are just bad for overall club finances. But I'm also aware that not all clubs have the same flexibility as mine with respect to volunteer coaches. So I pick my battles on what to complain about.

Sad but not uncommon… what about Jackson little league? Or Jackson AYF football league?Same crap. Adults stealing from youth sports. I’m sure there are plenty of other incidences. Just shameful.

You probably have to find a new club if it's still going on and You are uncomfortable. You aren't going to make any friends shedding more light on those activities and trying to get them to stop. I'm sure a lot of clubs and school HSAs/Ptas are running afoul of true state laws, but seems harmless if it's helping helping kids and not enriching an individual. Probably draw the line at rigged 50/50s though.

Why would you get involved with your children with such a corrupt organization? Is the entire board corrupt?

My Town had actual poker/slot machines and not a single person was charged. You want to police a football pool fundraiser? The same one the police dept. is running illegally?
