End of ECNL vs GA Debate

Just saw this post in the Virginia thread. I think the poster hit the nail on the head. I feel like I want to spam every state and forum because I am so sick of the debate. Some of the worst offenders are here in NJ especially South. The only thing I would add is USYS/EDP is the current Atlantic 10, not very far behind GA. Haha. Anyway, have at it.

I think what we can all (mostly?) agree on is that ECNL > GA, just like the SEC > PAC 12, for example. Does that make every SEC team better than every PAC 12 team? No. Is it a stronger league? Absolutely. Are there more NFL players produced (and taken early in the draft) from the SEC than the PAC 12 (just like more ECNL than GA go into D1 schools) in a typical year? Yes. Are there also players from the PAC 12 picked before SEC players? Yes. SEC > PAC 12, by a wide margin, but that doesn't mean each individual player in one conference is better than another. Are there strong PAC-12 teams that can compete with SEC teams? For sure. Same can be said about the ECNL vs. GA. FCV is just one of the stronger PAC12 teams (in this analogy).

So PDA Blue 05 playing CSA GA 05 would be like Alabama playing Rutgers in Football??? Score would be 100-0.

I don't think anyone considers CSA a top GA Club as compared to Houston Dash, NEFC, Tophat, etc. NJ doesn't have any TOP GA clubs. I think that was the whole point. Few and far between but there are some. STING in Florida is the ONLY USYS Club I can think of that could compete across most age groups.

FCV and Tophat are bad examples because they were top ECNL Clubs that misbehaved and the teacher is making an example of them by making them stand in the corner as punishment. Both clubs have lost very talented players because of the drop from ECNL to GA. That’s the major difference between leagues. Same clubs, same coaches, same players but a drop in leagues has caused players to leave.

Not sure I fully agree with that.....FCV and Tophat still have a ton of talented players, and can hang with, and beat, many/most of the local ECNL teams they play against. Not saying they are on the same level as the top Cali/TX teams, but the rest of the ECNL teams for sure.

They have both lost significant players to ECNL because of the league. What is holding them together with talent are coaches who have a great reputation of college placement and relationships with college coaches. Still, both clubs lost top significant players. I also include NEFC but they are not standing in the corner with the others. They are just being blocked by FC Stars. Time for ECNL board to show some grit vs. FC Stars.

FC Stars doesn't deserve two badges. Their blue teams did nothing at nationals. They only qualify because NE conference is so weak.

And PDA doesn’t deserve 3 but here we are. It’s a business first. It’s not an educational program.

Now your catching on. Club soccer and going forward to playing college soccer is a business, period. You want something different then there are clubs/leagues that will meet your criteria.

Considering my niece is on the 2007 team that just won Nationals, I can tell you this post is incorrect. They actually had top players come from Loudoun ECNL last year which helped them win. They also won Jefferson Cup with wins over SUSA, Virginia Union (who won ECNL Mid Atlantic, and Loudoun). I also know the older teams have gained ECNL players. What I can’t speak on is the younger teams which is where the DA teams didn’t exist.

This is correct. Same at the older ages as well- across a few clubs. ECNL players moved to GA and vice Versa. It all depends on the coach, the particular team and dynamics. There will always be badge chasers but those kids typically don’t play on the top team nor do they play meaningful minutes.

2007 TSJ team that was actually second in their league. Any guesses who was first? And they added ECNL players for next year also.
