Most leaders of organizations like working with others like themselves but in the corporate world the diversity of its leadership is under a microscope because its profit margins oftentimes are dependent upon the consumer markets that are growing which is non-white.

At private organizations like PDA business is booming with limited participants of the overall soccer market so the consciousness doesn’t need to awaken; and it’s business as usual with the same leadership and same British accented lieutenants. All is hunky dory as they say.

Agree that leaders (and people in general) like, or at least are most comfortable, working with people like themselves. Similarity breeds comfort, and there's no crime in wanting to be comfortable. On the other hand, good leaders are ones that see homogenous environments as limiting, and they see the benefits of being pushed outside of their comfort zones to be able to improve. So for example, a club with all white coaches might be comfortable and do a great job at coaching, but a talented POC player might look at that club and decide not to join because of it. So in order to attract the best players regardless of race/ethnicity, a club like PDA would be well-served to diversity its coaching staff to lower the barriers for the best athletes to come to the club.

Having said that, none of us have any idea whether or not there have been a significant number of POC or female coaches apply for coaching jobs at PDA. Can't blame PDA for not hiring POC or female coaches if not many apply. Does anyone know of a POC or female coach who applied for a coaching job at PDA who was turned down?

FWIW, I just looked at the Rutgers Women's Soccer coaching staff, and one of the assistant coaches is a woman. Her bio says she has coached at PDA for the last 4 years too.

You do know that majority of the female pro players are gay women and the most woke in our country right? Have you heard of Megan Rapino?

Is that true? I know Carly Lloyd took big issue with Rapinoe for drawing the focus of the USWNT away from soccer and more into a progressive platform.

Yeah once you start fact checking peoples quotes on TS their agenda becomes more clear! Pervious poster, wrote about ECNL rosters so I checked for myself. I saw there isn’t any more POC playing on any other club around. Yet this is a PDA issue alone?

ECNL clubs will often have the toughest time attracting POC, much of it having to do with the cost (yes, I'm making the assumption here that POC are not as financially well-to-do as whites; this is statistical assumption so not racist. Of course there are exceptions). Yes, while those clubs can offer scholarships, it doesn't help with the travel costs.

There are, however, other ECNL clubs that do a great job hiring POC coaches. Look at WCFC, where the majority of coaches are POC. And you'll see their non-ECNL/ECRL rosters are actually more diverse (although still largely white).

How about we just hire qualified diverse background coaches. White people always think diversity means less than. It is an unconscious bias that helps them rationalize being racist. Diversity does not mean less than it just means diversity. Assume all are qualified. It’s funny no one ever accuses an homogenous organization of being less than but when it comes to diversity the conversation always turns to “well they need to be qualified. As if people who run a business are going to put less qualified people in that position just because they are a women or a POC. I agree with the worldclass comment. They do a good job at hiring good diverse coaches. So it can be done. PDA just chooses not to.

I don't know many/if any folks that shares the view that diversity for the sake of diversity is somehow a good thing. I subscribe to the thought that forced diversity is bad but organic diversity is a good thing/occurs naturally.

Put in soccer terms, if we are playing soccer wouldn't we want actual soccer players on the team? Should we now mandate every team have spots for kids that can't play soccer just because there needs to be diversity?
