    Try-outs---- on the girls

Its try out season. if you are thinking about switching teams, make sure you do your homework.
    1) make sure you attend some training session. .... is this a good environment for my daughter..
    2) attend a few games. Doe every player play? Everyone needs to play.
    3) What style of play? possession or kick and run
    4) roster size.
PDA carries a big roster. At showcases at least the bench players play
    PDA play possession.
CSA-- small roster size. Not everyone plays. Usually, the same 7 players play the whole game at all ages.
CSa Plays kick and run. They cant keep possession because of the lack of skill
Wall small roster, they try and keep possession but they lack some skill players. Great coaches!!

Vast oversimplification of the tryout process, but your heart is in the right spot. Roster sizes can be deceiving, especially at HS ages. Roster sizes aren't universal across clubs. Some teams have larger rosters than others at the same club. It happens. Style of play is per coach. I've never witnessed a club-wide style. There are great coaches at every club. Review their qualifications and talk to them to see if you agree with them.

At what age group does this, “everyone needs to play” business stop and merit performance based attributes?

HS age really especially on teams that have more than 18. Kids literally are asked not to attend games. If you're only talking about kids on the bench not seeing the field, it's really about the same age but it comes down to situation and coach. I personally think it's crappy if a coach doesn't get everyone into a game (even with ECNL/GA sub rules).

I'm not sure what parents are really paying for at that point.

Aren’t most tryouts a dog and pony show?? I mean our local travel team pre ranks kids on a sliding scale(makes sense), the kids scrimmage and get switched around…I mean isn’t historical content more important than 60mins on a field with a bunch of ball hogs looking to get noticed? SMH

Tryouts are for new players. The team is there as a measurement stick. Last couple may get chopped on more competitive teams where new girls show up.

It is all club dependent. Some top clubs do not have the current team members even show up for the sessions. The tryouts are essentially a filtering process where kids may get cut, invited to the B/C team or invited to train with the A team to see if they might fit. Very rarely would an unknown player just show up at a tryout and be invited immediately to top team, at least by the time the teams are playing 11v11.

Getting on the better teams means asking to attend a few practices during the winter or early spring. By the time they have "tryouts" most if not all spots are accounted for

Correct, my D's team has probably had 15-20 kids at training over the past month. Tryouts are definitely just a dog and pony show.

Now that MF Shore is in shambles, it's going to be a very interesting tryout season. Most local clubs will probably see a spike in registrations with parents looking to distance themselves from MF. Anxious to see what that does for my daughter's team at PSA.

Not going to say what kid or what club, but my daughter said one of the MF Shore 2009 girls were at her practice on Monday. Seems they are definitely looking for other options.

Wow, that didn't take long. I'm sure RT would have another breakdown if he knew his kids are looking for other options.
