Sting Royal 09 parent here that just got back from J Cup. Some parent sent me this thread so I thought I would respond to some comments. Our team is almost all former Solar kids that didn’t make the Solar ECNL team. Solar pooled 19 ‘09 teams together to make a super team. The team was made up of the top 4 teams in Adames, Angelone, Grado and Colvin Solar teams which was two top 5 teams and 2 more top 30 teams nationally combined together. The Sting Royal team is brand new and still working on chemistry and style under a new coach. They are very physical and blue collar but due to their lack of chemistry they may be one of the flaky-est teams in the country… can beat anyone and lose to anyone. If they make the the ECNL playoffs they will be the toughest 4 seed in any group to draw… trust me. The team is slowly getting better. Solar is good every age division because they are the best at playing the recruiting game. They accumulate as many entire academy teams as possible by paying coaches the most and having the lowest club fees for players and then pool the best players together to make a super team once they reach ECNL level. None of the other DFW clubs do this so Solar is and will continue to dominate until other DFW clubs copy them.

Regarding J Cup… Penn Fusion plays physical but I think they aren’t used to teams that can match their physicality. Penn dominated us the first 10 mins but once we changed our formation to increase our width, they didn’t really do anything after that. The score should have been worse than 1-0. Their coach was super classy and professional… I liked her. The Richmond game was tough. We gave up a goal due to a bouncing ball with crazy winds that caused a communication error goal. Our coach assumed that Match Fit would beat Penn so we felt we had to press in the game to get a tie… we gave up 2 counter goals in the last 5 mins to lose 3-0. Hats off to RU for deflecting our late game onslaught. We played terrible and Richmond is a really good team that will only get better. I love their style and technical skill. They are sneaky good… no single player really scares you but they have a really good defense and keeper and they have two forwards that will convert if given an opportunity. Mids are not dominant but play with great style and effort. Match Fit game was interesting. We came out with a ton of effort to start and I don’t think they were ready for it. We also play VERY PHYSICAL, and they don’t have much size so I think it threw them out of their game. Parents weren’t used to seeing their girls roughed around and complained a lot. One guy flicked one of our mom’s off for no reason which was classy. That’s our game… you can’t let it affect you. Richmond didn’t let it affect them but MFA did. We had 3 yellows in the Richmond game but RU stayed composed. The corner goal by MFA was pretty. Our goals were scrappy. They are still very good but it seems without a dominant forward, they will score primarily off set pieces and crosses from the left forward if you don’t have a left back to contain her. I think the way to beat them now is knock them around physically and be prepared to stop their set pieces, especially corners. They will figure out how to score again as they adjust to losing some players so I wouldn’t write them off just yet.

Good luck to everyone in league play… take care!

cant tell you how much I appreciate honest discussion about “your” team and others. Thank you for the post. Of course no one is surprised that MF parents behaved in their normal fashion.
To settle a debate.. do you recall who was coaching this game?

        Comment

Not sure who it was since I don’t know the coaches for the area. If I recall correctly he was avg height with little to no hair, maybe bald. I could be wrong though. Not sure if that helps.

I know which goalie allowed the goals but I agree with the comment to not talk about specific kids in a negative way.

Great post and nice job by your girls keeping MatchFit out of the final.

            Good luck this spring.

I went back and looked at the FB Live video and it does look like that Tetro guy you guys seem to dislike. He was across the field with the sun in our eyes but it looks like him from what I could tell.

Thanks for the kind words… good luck to everyone in the Spring!

Thank you. That’s Tetro. You would not have described the other coach in the same fashion. Thank you for your honest feedback and best of luck.

Great stuff. This is the reason we should come to a soccer board. Discussion on the game, background info on teams, regional club tendencies, strategies, etc. all without pointing fingers and criticizing kids.

                  Kudos to you.

Ryan Tetro and Matchfit Shore prove to be the biggest losers this year at Jeff Cup. What a great way to kick off the seasons with all you teams.
