Tournaments - Why can't they post the schedule earlier?

All the tournaments we've been to don't post the schedule any earlier than 2 weeks (at best) before the tournament. This makes it extremely difficult to book rooms. These organizations have been doing it for years. They should be able to put out a schedule within a couple of days. If they indicate registration deadline that's a month before the tournament date, why do they need 2-3 weeks to get a schedule together?

Because they probably have teams backing out, coaches making last minute requests and are trying to fill other brackets. Hotels almost always have free cancellation within a couple days. Booking a room isn’t hard. If there is air travel involved, fair, but hotels aren’t a legitimate concern.

Always assume you have the first game on the first day and last on the last day. Make sure you have a changeable reservation in case you can arrive or leave earlier. If you're at a tournament that requires their agency bookings then you're you're usually SOL regardless. If you have free time go sight see, or if your kid is U14+ go hit local colleges to start thinking about what they want for college

Teams do back out, things happen, especially in the days of Covid or even bad winter weather. Get used to it if you're planning on your kids riding this pony through HS.

They could post it the day of the tournament if only they would stop scheduling teams that play each other in league play etc. and have them travel to VA or wherever to play another local team. Insane.

If the games were all played on the same fields, then I agree that booking rooms aren't a problem. The problem is that some of the tournaments have fields that are 40 minutes apart so you won't know where you're going to play.
