National League to GA or ECNL?

My daughter is a sophomore "05". 85% of team are juniors, and is on a National League team. They did very well at last college showcase. However, she is very serious about D1 and hopefully further into a career. College showcase exposure is ok for National League, but it has been recommended to move to GA or ECNL. Her previous coach (from 4 years ago) is now GA and has been recruiting her. My daughter wants faster speed of play, better training, and more college exposure. We are in the middle of the year and committed to this team (4 years) until spring is over, but my daughter wants to move now. She loves her team, has made lifelong friends, but she feels now is the time. What is the appropriate ettiquette? Is GA a good option (guaranteed position") or should we wait for ECNL tryouts in spring (no guarantee - teams are stacked).

Depends on where you live! Are you in South Jersey or further up north?

I'm up north NJ, but she currently travels south for National team. The GA team is also south.

My two cents. Likely easier to make GA team, get playing time and contribute. You will get better college exposure then USYS and depending on which club, college coaching and contacts. Good luck.

          1) depends on what your options are within a reasonable distance
          2) depends on where she can land a spot. Many rosters are pretty locked
          3) depends if she's going to be a benchwarmer - good training is one thing but she won't benefit from the higher league if she sits most games

Don't wait for tryouts. If she really wants to move now is the time to call and ask to be invited to practices. She might even be able to land something now.

She is on the USNT? if so, she can go play wherever she wants, whenever she wants - quite frankly not sure she would even need a club team. She should just go to the ID camps of the colleges she wants to attend.

Some GA coaches have allowed players to continue to play with local teams so may be something to ask about. ECNL will not allow it though. Also has she contacted any colleges yet or talked to any college coaches about where she should be playing?

My daughter plays GA and I asked multiple times for her her to secondary or dual card and coach said no. Is this a GA rule or just a coach being an a**h*le?

It certainly was not allowed under GDA. The entire premise of the league is more training, fewer games. What incentive does a club have letting a player play with another club unless that player is merely a check writing practice player?

Also being on two teams is a recipe for injuries (overuse or sustained) and burnout. If your kid is younger it may not seem like a big deal but trust me, it is a big deal as they get older.

She has played for this club team for several years. The level just below ECNL She is well know throughout the club programs by different coaches and recruiting has been happening for a few years now. But she has just now decided she wants more exposure and more challenge. She is a starter and gets a lot of play time on her current team. The new GA team is a guaranteed spot and playing time. Just concerned more about the etiquette regarding comittment to her coach, leaving mid year.

That's a different question. While normally I'd encourage waiting until the end of the season (finish what you committed to), as a sophomore the clock is ticking. Much of D1 recruiting for her class is happening now at showcases and this summer at ID events. Coaches are actively watching this age group, even if offers will be many months away. Also for her to get the benefit of a more challenging league the sooner the move the better.

The coach/club might be diks, or might surprise you and support the move as part of her career path. Just make sure the new team is a good fit and more importantly has good coaching. Plenty of clubs with the "right badge" still aren't good.

Go with whichever one will get her on field. Northern NJ for ECNL means you're either driving to PDA or World Class. Both very tough to just walk onto. Those are top 5-10 teams nationally. So just be sure you look at the other players and go where she fits. I think D1 can be accomplished from either league.

What showcases are the new team going to? What is the status of the 06 team as her final year will be a composite team of 05 and 06 seniors. What other players on new 05 are sophomores? Don’t want to end up without a team in her final year.

ECNL teams would invite her to practice now in order to take a look. I wouldn’t wait until the spring.

Not the thread op but if you're a team with nearly all college bound players that won't be an issue, especially since it's a U19 composite. Playing in a lower level league that very much can become an issue. A lot of players drop out senior year if they're not college bound, causing teams to fall apart
