    COPA FC, coach inquiry

Hi! I'm looking for my daughter to join an Academy team in the Middlesex area and heard good things. I did hear mixed reviews on this coach Yazmeow? Any good?

I believe “Yazo” is his last name. Heard he has nice teeth.

He DOES have nice teeth! I heard they're real too. But clueless at coaching.

He’s a very nice guy. Parents and players like him so no gossip about this guy.

I've seen Coach Yazo in practice and at games. He is a very good coach, as well as a nice guy. He can be intense but is never mean or critical. He wants his players to understand the game and think about what they are doing. He doesn't want players just kicking the ball around for no purpose. He wants players to move into space, not just stand around waiting for the ball to come to them. He points it out if players are doing this.

FC Copa is a very good club, with some excellent teams and coaches, especially on the girls' side. They have their pros and cons like any other club. My daughter is starting her second year there and is very happy. I've been very happy overall with the coaching at Copa so far. They don't overload their team rosters as far as I can tell. I think all of the G06 teams have approximately 18 players, give or take 1 or 2. I think FC Copa can be a very good choice, depending on the player.

Good teams on girls side for sure. Yazo's 2010 Girls are ranked 143 in the state.

You're point being? His 2007 team is #50. What does one have to do with the other? You have no idea how long a team has been playing together, the skill level of the players, if the team is new, etc. One of the qualities of a good coach is if they are able to teach the game, develop, and motivate players to become the best players they can be. How players have or haven't developed under any coach's guidance after a few years, that is a much greater indication of the quality of a coach, than some ranking taken at one snapshot in time.

Since rankings apparently mean a lot, here are some of FC Copa's Girls teams rankings from Youthsoccerrankings.us. From the ranking looks like the coaching staff does a decent job developing players over time.
