Hey buttwipe, the poster was wondering why so many internationals in general go to Fl. They like the state. Makes sense international athletes would as well.

And internationals means from other countries genius. Let me guess, Rutgers grad right? ROFL.

Not a fan how RU gets its players by shoving all its prospects into one local club but let’s give credit where credit is due. RU is winning and winning at the highest level. Let’s see if they can win two more games and bring the championship home to NJ.

Then let me explain. When a recruit has multiple choices in picking a college it all begins with location. Soccer recruits will be drawn to the location, the weather, the field. Is it turf or grass? The athletic center, the housing, the league they compete and the universities reputation. Why do you think RU rely on so many players from one state and one club? I absolutely give RU credit for getting the best players inI the state from one club. Hope they win the championship.
There really is no draw to New Brunswick. Even the football team sucks. Maybe if it did better it would help.

It has been a top performing team for awhile and has had more internationals than is typical. No doubt the location plus being a top team is the draw. Teams that struggle aren't appealing to top players. Some locations/campus environments won't be a draw to some student athletes but will to others. Then there's the academic piece which is hopefully a higher priority than location.

There aren't nearly as many female international players as males but it is growing quickly.

Not always and you have no idea what their other offers were. Then, even among top athletes a portion will prefer to stay closer to home no matter what their options are. Being hyper local also means many of the players probably know each other and the quality of the team being assembled.

It's an unusual situation and will be interesting to see how it plays out. Many didn't think they'd make it this far..

The proof is look at their roster. Of course RU would love to recruit top / elite players from all four regions. Instead they have to rely on those players who want to stay close to home as well as the financial factor of in-state students. That’s why the have such a close relationship with PDA. Given the choice the NE is a tough sell for women’s soccer. Just looking at the four teams remaining for the cup championship where would you rank RU when checking all the boxes of a college you want to be a student/athlete? For NJ kids it’s a “no brainer” as far as financial, Big Ten conference and those who want to play close to home.

Not having the luxury to attract players outside of New Jersey makes their run even more incredible. Jersey Strong. Period. Good job ladies. Remember there will always be haters no matter how far you go

They don't have to only shop NJ let only so heavily PDA. Agree with above there are plenty of good players in the Northeast/Atlantic seaboard who maybe don't want to go more than the typical 1/2 day's drive away from home. Skewing so heavily PDA was a choice.

I don’t understand how Mike O’Neil is allowed to coach High School aged players. In theory he operates without a dark period. What are the NCAA regulations that allow for this? Doesn’t make sense to me. Anyone?

They're allowed to coach HS aged players as long as the player reside within 50 miles of the school. There are some exceptions but that's the general idea. Who much it's enforced who knows.

RU looked at the soccer landscape and knew to stay competitive they need the PDA “pipeline” it’s a win/win for the student who wants to stay at home & financially for those families. Rutgers women’s soccer is one of the most successful athletic programs at the college because of the connection with PDA.
. It’s not the only NE colleges that have a problem recruiting athletes. Both Boston College & Syracuse are a hard sell even with both being P5 conference schools.

BYU has never been to the college cup and played through a tough bracket. That is an incredible run.
The other three teams have been to the CC before. Good job but not unexpected.

It is better than it was yrs ago but still an armpit compared to other campuses and experiences. And don't dare take a wrong turn. Not safe.
If football does not improve, they may loose their P5 status. TV stations want viewership and that is what pays the bills.
