    Saving NJ referees

So the number of youth soccer referees in NJ continues to shrink. I keep hearing how parents are getting out of control and I have seen it several times with parents becoming relentless. How do we stop this? Games are getting canceled now due to lack of refs. Any thoughts?

    Clubs need to have accountability.
    Parents get out of control
    1. they get asked to stop
    2. the parent gets asked to leave
    3. Coach gets a yellow
    4. coach gets red.
    5. Team forfeits game
    6. Police get called disturbing the peace,
or whatever needs to be done

Again club accountable to maintain the peace & safety of all

I have kids at several age groups and have not seen any ref shortages at league games or tournaments.

you have absolutely no idea what goes on behind the scenes to make sure your kids' games have refs. There aren't nearly enough and coordinators are constantly scrambling. High demand also means some poor refs can keep their jobs that shouldn't.

Agree that clubs need to take the lead on getting their parents to behave. We were at one where a parent got one warning initially. Second warning meant you had to leave the game or practice immediately. Three you couldn't be on site for a month. Fourth - out for the year. If you violated those orders your kid lost PT. Withholding PT is a last report - it isn't the kids fault their parents are nuts

Calling police? It's an extremely rare incident that requires the cops.

The fact that you think your family's experience represents all demonstrates you don't have a clue

The clubs need the $$ so they won't dare tell the dads to shut the hell up during the games and let the coach and ref handle the game the way it should be.

I can't stand dads coaching the kids it's awful...

FAce it, some of the coaches are just as bad. They set a bad tone for all to behave badly.

Sure you are. If you were you'd know how bad it is - but make sure that your kids teams had refs. Because as another said, you're a douche

Coaches can help the situation by sitting kids when their parents get to loud. It’s amazing how quickly a parent pipes down when their kid sits down

Unfair to kids who didn't do anything wrong.

Non-issue. There are plenty of refs out there if you pay them a fair wage.
