Seacoast is advertising that their new Bedford teams will play in DPL (girls) and NPL (boys). So what's that mean? Automatic demotion for everyone on current NPL teams out of Epping? Anyone with a kid on NPL with an offer for next season?

Just taking a quick look at the schedules from this spring, you'll find multiple clubs with more than one team in various NPL brackets (GPS had up to four teams within a single NPL bracket in a couple of age groups). It's certainly possible to have Seacoast Epping and Seacoast Bedford teams within an NPL bracket. I don't know anything about DPL but I will say this about the academy team. My D plays on a Seacoast academy team. A group of Bedford players have been training with them. The top half of that team could easily displace the bottom half of our current team. Here's hoping Seacoast gets it right and makes an academy team (and I suppose a DPL team) that pulls the BEST, regardless of branch or what facility they play out of.
Would be a huge waste to finally get some depth and waste it.Comment

This year, that will be tough. They are trying to accommodate players from the spring and the tryouts have been hard to organize. But, long term, absolutely. I've seen players not invited back and replaced by better players. Has happened ever year.Originally posted by Unregistered View PostComment

Seacoast DA was a disaster. They should have stuck with just a solid NPL team. Couple of girls made FC Stars in 02/03, one who could have made it was the best DA player didn't bother due to logistics, but that's it. Lot's of parents not even coming back at all which opens opportunities for others. ENCL wouldn't let Seacoast in for obvious reasons, so while games will appear competitive, it's still lower tier soccer (which is fine).Originally posted by Unregistered View Post
Seacoast was convenient (for most part), and our expectations were more/less what we paid for. Is it elite soccer? No, but like all the other clubs not ENCL, they're just trying to grab as much market share as they can in what is now an uncertain environment.Comment

In the past, Seacoast was a stronger club especially for girls. They had two solid teams per age group in Epping and the A team was significantly better than the B and difficult to make and they absolutely cut kids each year in favor of better players coming in or moving up. I bet taking over Bedford will afford them the ability to do this again. They also had 2-3 D1 commits come out of their club each year for girls and that's dwindled but they may start seeing that again as well which would attract more NH players who are traveling to MA. Taking over Bedford was a smart move for money reasons and a byproduct will be to consolidate NH talent. We shall see.Originally posted by Unregistered View PostComment

I agree. I know people love to hate SUSC but they've done right by us. My D may not be D1 material but she's a solid player and they've brought out the best in her ability. Right now our age group has a mediocre A team, a medicore B team, and a very weak C team. If the Bedford players allow us to have stronger teams then I'm all for it, even if my own gets bumped down. All we want is to be on a team where she's challenged appropriately and competitive in most games. I'm thrilled with the news and excited for the future.Comment

This is the most important thing to take out of this experience, and needs to be reinforced everywhere and often. That is all that anyone should be looking to gain from this: play on a competitive team, at the right level for the players' abilities, and have fun. The rest will take care of itself.
I'd much rather be a solid player on a decent team then riding pine on an excellent team.Comment
