By screaming at the coach, and walking off at halftime? A few games into the season, their first season up a division?

I mean, she shouldn't have been playing there to begin with. Now, after the team is trained to run every single attack through her, she walks off and leaves them. Tough love, I guess.

Again you are clueless and live in a fantasy world.

She moved on and the team has moved on.

A lot of incorrect information being floated about.

After seeing what happened to last year in the quarterfinal game versus Lisbon where she was brutally undercut by a Lisbon defender when she was going up for a header and broke her wrist breaking her fall, I am surprised she came back at all this year. Why risk a career ending injury before getting to Duke?

By all accounts, she enjoyed playing with her teammates even though her play was on a completely different level.

        Couple of other points:

        1) Her Duke coach was supportive of her decision.

        2) I never heard her yell at her teammates. Maybe some instruction but never anything degrading. My daughter also verified this.

        3) Asking high school players to play for 4 different coaches in 4 years is difficult. Hell, look what happens in the pros when there is consistent coaching turnover. How many of you would be complaining if your daughters had 4 coaches in 4 years at any high school in this state?

As a parent of a player who got the chance to play with someone of her caliber, it was tough seeing her go. Would I have liked to see her maybe move back to midfield position and control play and get less marking from 2 to 3 players and be more of a distributor? Sure, but that didn't happen. And that is not where she was projected to play next year.

Ask yourself this question. If that was my daughter, great student with a soccer scholarship to Duke, would you have made a different decision?

Finally, what got all of this discussion started on this thread? A very basic Union Leader article about her leaving without much information and many unanswered questions. What I find ironic, is that a different Union Leader writer reached out to the family a few weeks ago to get some more information and write another article. Why was nothing ever published to get the full story?

No, she would not have been allowed to jeopardize her opportunity at Duke playing for a lower division HS league. It has little chance of succeeding. That decision should've been done before the season, not during.

Derryfield is not the type of team that can move up a division and also lose several solid role players before the season starts. Since the time she decided to stay after last season, the team lost two very solid rising sophomores to other private schools and 4 other projected solid role players to other sports, etc. yet she still decided to play. This is s school with about 130 girls never mind how many soccer players to begin with. I also believe she wanted to play with her sister. How many times do you get to do that? The frosting on the cake for me was to see the physical nature of play against her in those first few games. You could sense it was going to be different in D3 this year without as good a supporting cast and teams being able to focus on her almost exclusively. Just wasn't safe. And maybe it just wasn't fun to have to play in that type of environment? Let's face it, we could do another thread on the quality of refereeing and lack of yellow cards at the high school level. It's amazing what one yellow can do for the tone of a game but that never seemed to happen. It's almost like refs expect her to be able to take more physical contact based on her ability rather than calling the fouls as they should be called.

I don't disagree with most of that. But, all that was known before the season started.

The team and school support her. Not sure why you care so much.

Yes, your points are fair and a valid critique on the timing of the decision.

I am just asking for those others posting here without all the information not to rush to judgement and make more of it than it is. There is usually always more to a situation than meets the eye. We are talking about a 17/18 year old here.

Would love to see threads on:

                    1) "Forget The Cost, Is the 3-Man Refereeing System Safer For Our High School Soccer Players"

                    2) "Should Soccer Players Forgo A High School Soccer Experience To Play Academy Soccer"

Well, the counterpoint would be we are talking about 16-18 year olds here that are having THEIR experience compromised for a situation out of their control.

But, if you'd like to open a thread on those subjects, please do. It's really a simple thing to do.

Not sure what you are talking about, but without trashing the refs, it would be great to see NH step up and pay for a 3 ref system. This would help with the integrity of the game and to prevent injuries with more eyes on the field. There also needs to be some sort of report that coaches can file on refs who are out of control and clearly don't know some of the rules. It multiple reports are filed on a ref then the NHIAA could take some action to go observe that ref or at minimum, look further into the complaint.

Sounds like a case of "No offense, but....(followed by an offending statement)

Nothing wrong with some supervision. There are some great refs and some not so great refs. Would be nice to try to improve the not so great refs with a system of oversight that is more effective than coaches and parents yelling during games.

Agree. Just don't say you don't want to trash them, then trash some of them.

Judging by the timing of things, discussion of South should re-emerge around mid-November.
