Just look at the organization's 990 if you really want answers..According to GYSL 990, no compensation or benefits were paid to members in 2011 or 2010...

But check out pages 9/10 of NHSA 2011 and the explanation of "Part IX'.. 13K in stipends, NHSA owns a car (?); $6500 in meals.. $3k in 'bounced checks' (?)... sure your members are keeping tabs on what your governing board is doing??

So what's the verdict?

As a parent of a child who played this year I truly didn't see anything different then the previous season. I am not privy to the behind the scenes issues that clubs and coaches may have had to deal with but I am curious if NH Soccer League was viewed as a success or not.

As a coach of a U12 team 70% of our games only had one referee! Our team paid upfront to NHSL referee fees for the season. I expect a refund for games that had only one referee. Many of the referees on our games were very young with little or no experience.

We had several games with extreme travel. Traveling an hour and 45 minutes to play a game. Parents were none to happy! Past seasons we always played teams within a 30 minute drive.

We never had any of the above issues with GSYSL! Hope GSYSL will return in the spring, we will definitely register with them! We will not play with NHSL again, too many problems and lack of organization! Otherwise we will take our teams and play in MA.

6-7 clubs from NH already play in Maple ... let the exodus begin. All the NH maple games and NEP games had full coverage of referees all season long, unlike the numerous games in NHSL that had missing or no referees. Many of the more experienced referees in NH have fled to MA already. NHSL was scrambling to find referees for the playoffs and finals as late as Friday.

This is a normal course of business in running a league. GSYSL are professional at it, worked hard at it and that is why you had a well run league.

NEP is joining US Club Soccer to offer the benefits to teams they have lost to NPL leages (NYNPL and NENPL). NEP really has some skilled teams U12 and below but they lose their strongest teams to either NPL or ECNL. GSYSL should try to put together at least a basic round of u12 and u14 flights and they can build from there; possibly even dip into MA as Greater Lowell United FC is opening a youth club right over in MA. Word is they intend to go with MAPLE though.

Quite sad that NHSA is having trouble getting coverage for their refs. I know there was grumbling amongst them as NHSA cut their rates down $5-$10/game but on the other hand, I do know there's enough skilled refs that would like more work in NH. In MA, demand is stronger but they manage to cover everything 97% of the time. There's difficulty every now and then in May in MA particularly around Mothers Day but it's because there's just too much demand. But to not have enough coverage in the fall when u15+ is playing high school during the week is unacceptable.

I know my son and some of his patched buddies were upset when the pay cut went through and they decided to not ref.

Well, after leaving the state in May I have heard nothing but dismay with NHSL and the NHSA organization as a whole. I always supported GSYSL and then gave the new league a shot. NHSL was an extreme disappointment to follow. Unorganized, political games being played from the start. The new league played a role in the departure of many officials. It wasn't the lower pay rates either. The referee's left because they were being sent to places like Mt Washington Valley (Conway) from Gilford and Laconia to referee one game. There was no point in making that travel. And the teams themselves ran into the same issues. Tosh Farrell teams were sent to Gilford for u12 games. 2 hours for just over an hour of football, then 2 hours home? Sensible.

The clubs got what they wanted. Political games in the front office and an unorganized mess. This is the state of football in NH. The clubs can now demand change and plan a course of action, or they can complain in the shadows.

By the way, NHSA passed a "law" that says there may not be any additional league in NH. So really, you're stuck with it. Sorry..

Nhsa does not posses the power to exclude any other leagues no matter what their bylaws say. the may be able to control their own league but I am sure ussf, usysa, us club soccer would have a differing opinion.
