    SUSC Academy/MLS Teams

Curious if anyone has experience turning down an offer for these teams, and if that would negatively affect future offers. My son was offered to play but I am not sure we are ready to commit to the travel as we have 2 other busy children and need to accommodate their schedules as well. I don't want it to cause him to be looked over in the future however.

depends of the age, but in general SUSC MLS teams are not that good until their older group, your kid will have fun and make friends but spending money/time on teams that always struggle to stay on top it's not worth it, Play NAL or school ball

He is young, it's actually pre academy so U11. The team he was invited to play on seems middle of the pack. He is already on one of the elite level teams at SUSC, just not sure I want to be traveling to NY/PA/CT etc this year. Appreciate the response.

When you tell them your check is ready to clear the offer will be back on the table

I've found almost everyone in the organization to be reasonable (I've had my issues with just a couple of them). I think if you explain the situation, that now just isn't the right time, but would be interested in exploring opportunities in the future should they be a fit. I expect them to be receptive and not blacklist you

I don't know this club, but I have found other clubs to be completely unsentimental about this stuff. If your kid can deliver the goods, they will take him later. The question is whether he develops at a rate to be able to deliver those goods, while remaining in the lower levels. That is entirely possible, as U11 is so young. But don't wait forever.

Pre-academy is less of a commitment. MLS next doesn’t start until u13. Many kids will shuffle in and out by this time

If he can score goals there will always be place.

It’s a complete waste of money. Academy soccer does not render much return.

Let's just say I'm familiar with U11 boys pre-academy team at SUSC. If your kid can play, there will almost always be a spot for him. However, and as someone already touched upon, what I would be concerned about is his ability to keep up with the pre-academy players. The gap begins to widen quickly even at this level. The pre-academy kids are playing against some the top players in New England (IFA, NEFC, etc.) every weekend (and beyond New England in tournaments), and they're scrimmaging with U12 pre-academy (and elite) players multiple times per week. There is no substitute for that level of play, and the U11 elite level kids (across all clubs) are not sufficient competition, in my opinion. The speed of play is markedly higher at the pre-academy level. The U11 pre-academy squad easily handles the U12/U11 elites. Unless your kid has a significant amount of natural ability (and maybe he does), the longer you wait to put him with the academy players, the greater the risk that he falls too far behind to be an impact player once they move to 11v11 MLSN at U13. And I speak as a parent who was reluctant to put his kid in club so young but was convinced by others to do it ASAP. I'm glad I did.

Also, completely fair regarding having multiple kids/priorities. Not easy to juggle. I would say that the travel at the pre-academy level isn't horrible. Travel to NY (Albany) a couple times each fall/spring is about as bad as it gets. Otherwise, it's RI/MA/CT, which can all be done same day, if preferred. Other parents/families are great about helping out, if needed. U13 MLSN is a different story in terms of commitment. That said, if your son aspires to play at a high level (i.e., collegiately), I'm not sure there's another route.

If you want my advice, if your kid is talented and your family is willing to make the commitment, put him on the pre-academy team now. I don't see much downside. That said, if you can't make the commitment now, then I fail to see to how the increased commitment at U13 MLSN will be doable. Better off just setting expectations with your kid and making it clear that MLSN won't be an option (and there's nothing wrong with that, to be clear ..... it's not for every family). Best of luck.

Seacoast academy is a waste of money.

Do they do a regional team at u11? My son played on one last year which played a couple tournaments, but have not heard a thing on it this year.
