What clubs were Carr and Wayne previously?

Anyone notice the large numbers of NH-ites that make the Regional or higher teams? By percentage of population NH does better than Mass. Something in the water up there? Yeah, and I know many come to Mass for their training, but they must still have the athleticism and mentality to go so far.

At the girls '96 regional ID camp a keeper was injured on the first night in the first game and was on crutches for the rest of the week. Even though she did not step on the field for the rest of the week she was on the pool list every single day and made the final pool.....taking a spot from others who worked hard all week and were not given a chance becasue they were holding a spot for her. I just think this is plain wrong and shows how political youth soccer is. Thoughts?

There is a special allowance made for injured players. It has been allowed for years and frankly should be. Why should a great palyer be penalized just because they got injured. Theoretically the injured players recover and complete their tryout at regional events and get cut if they don't pan out in the future.l I've never seen one cut.

Right or wrong, it is just the way it is. I am assuming you are the parent of a 96er. Get used to it. You won't get any support from those parents whose kids make it. And the parents of kids who don't are always labeled as whiners. There are just as many examples on the State level. Would you stand up for a kid that missed out because your daughter got hurt during ODP tryouts but they saved her spot? You would probably say that your daughter should make the team regardless of how hard others worked. Same thing but on a higher level. Of course, it is entirely possible that you are not being objective. Coaches don't live in a vacuum. That keeper could have been the best at the camp and that her injury was deemed as not serious enough to keep her from participating in the near future. Should she miss out because she got injured?

The same thing happened at the boys 96 camp. A well connected player was injured in the first ten minutes yet made the regional pool. And no, he was not better than those that didn't make it.

There is one problem with your logic - there are not a fixed number of spots available in the pool. The injured player(s) don't take a spot away from deserving players. The cadre simply adds the injured player to the pool expanding the pool by one.

This girl your are talking about was injured on Tuesday night, but her performances throughout the day on Monday and Tuesday showed that she was capable of making pool for the whole week. Like someone else also said, the number of players in pool is based on the talent. If another keeper was also good enough to make pool, she would too. Also, if your child was a great player, but got injured in the beginning of the week, it wouldn't be fair that he/she couldn't make the pool because of the unlucky event.

Would you want your daughter being the one purposely taken out so that she would get injured and give someone else a spot in pool play? If your scenario was correct, this would be happening.

You are only looking at the small picture. The big picture is they are looking for the best girls to compete in events during the year. It is then knocked down to 18 girls. They want to bring the best to win against other regions, but mostly to show national team coaches, colleges, etc. the best in any region. At every level of ODP there are three groups of kids, those that stand out above the rest, those on the bubble and those that are obviously not being considered to be moved up. If your kid was on the bubble of the pool, she was not going to go further anyway. Teach her to go home, practice harder and try again next year. My daughter was injured right before region camp one year. To her advantage, a regional coach was watching how well she played right before her injury. That, along with prior accomplishments during the year, they held a spot for her. She earned that spot throughout the year, not just during one week. To show I am not that biased, another year she went to camp not in as good of shape as the year prior, this time due to recovering from an injury. She did make the pool, but was never called to do anything with the team. She agreed, her level of play had dropped and she did not deserve the call. She worked harder the next year and once again "earned" her spot on the team. Not once did I tell her that she should have made it, because she knew that she should not have. And I also agree about not taking another's spot, as each year the numbers in the pools change.

Kids can also be ID'd outside of the typical ODP process, particularly with the help of an influencial coach. The really strong kids will be found, especially if they or their supporters want them to be.

As far as the ODP programs go, if they miss some kids at young ages they have plenty of opportunity to find them later on and the national program isn't lacking for a pool. Unfortunately if there is a star who's greatest strength is making other players look good and play better - the US is not working to find them.
And can I add something else? Were you at the camp watching? My daughter attended with a girl that was a very good, played great in the games and during pool games, but never made the final pool. There were always tears and her state coach getting mad, but my daughter came home and said, mom she did not want to make the final pool, she kept telling me her parents did, so she faked the tears, etc. because she enjoys playing her team, but does not really like ODP. She also ate junk food all week, and acted up in the dorms. The Regional coaches would see this, as well as her lack of enthusiasm, and she felt this is why the girl was never chosen. Sometimes it's not what it seems.

I hope there is no politics, as that will be truly disappointing! My child tried out, we are still waiting to hear if she made it, but either way there were many talented kids out there and with the exception of a handful, all could easily be picked.

Further more, referring to the comments by another parent, calling some ones kid fat, just shows you the maturity level of some parents! Your reaction is very defensive...why is that???

There are no ifs, ands or buts, ODP is a very political program. Being selected hinges more on where you play, who you know and least of all, how you play. This is not whining. This is simple truth.

There always is a bit of truth that politics, personalities, looks, etc affect choices in almost all team sports. Going back to a previous post where the poster put kids in 3 groups - the top kids make it no matter what. The kids in the middle are not the main focus of ODP. Switch one out for one marginally different in skill and you don't get a big difference in results.
