Anyone who thinks that this new variant of covid hasn’t been circulating in the US for some time is delusional. The only reason we haven’t known is that the US has done little to no sequencing throughout this pandemic. The UK, on the other hand, has made it a priority throughout. If the US decides to step up sequencing, I’d bet we will see that the majority of cases over the past month+ are this new variant.

spot on. The variation first showed up in the UK in September. It's already around the globe, including here, it's just a question of how dominant it is. The two CO cases just detected had no known travel so that means they picked it up in their communities. Another massive testing failure by the US.

The CDC is asking people not to travel for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Traveling to FL for soccer is just as bad. As a healthcare worker, its is beyond ridiculous for the ECNL to even hold the event. How is the tiny community in Greer doing now after the Greer event? AZ is out of ICU beds last I heard. So is Southern California. Fly in for 4 days for soccer and leave the community in dire straits as related to hospitals and ICU beds. Greer and SC is not the mecca of healthcare like Boston.
Stay home please. As a healthcare worker, we have had enough of this. Stay home and play games. There is enough competition here. Film the games. Stay out of an airport, the shuttles to rental cars, and the hotels.
Hospitals are now retesting patients every 72 hours if original test is negative. This isn't over folks. Are you all getting Covid tests to go to FL and then to come back to MA? Paying out of pocket or lying about symptoms to get your insurance to pay for it?? ECNL should cancel, end of story!

Populist pandering will always be popular with a majority of the electorate. And the growing numbers of takers obviously applaud the socialist democrats - they will have nothing stolen from them and instead will just be receiving. Plus, they will be made to feel much better about their being failures in life because they will be told it is not their fault or responsibility, as they are "victims" of the "system." Democratic BS is like a narcotic that makes people see an alternative "reality."

I really wish they would postpone this tournament until the week of February vacation. We are so close to having lower numbers due to the vaccine roll out. I realize the risk is not huge, but moving it out 6-8 weeks would help a lot.

Not enough regular folk will have be vaccinated by then. But, numbers will be improving and it would move it away from the likely post-holiday case surge we are going to see. Many schools and businesses are on hold until mid January to see where the numbers are.

While I agree that the federal govt has certainly failed in their covid19 response overall, the rest of your post makes no sense. CVS and Walgreens are primarily handling vaccination clinics for nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Guess who handles flu vaccine clinics every single year for these facilities? CVS and Walgreens. These companies have been doing this for years. They have a process already in place. You think the state or federal govt would be a better option?
