attempt to get this back to soccer
I live in Florida. Have two kids playing soccer. They had closed down soccer from March to Memorial day when they didn't know much about soccer. I lived in Massachusetts for about 35 years. When I lived in Mass we had a similar opinion about Florida that I see many on this board have. After living here it's pretty crazy of how wrong Mass people have of this area. I find now that Mass people have this elitist mentality that their area is the best in the country and they are above everyone else. I noticed this when I first moved to New Hampshire (there is a reason why they refer to you as M*******s).
In regards to soccer. both kids play ECNL and have played High School soccer. At all games spectators are expected to wear masks as well as coaches. We are not allowed to have any team events such as team dinners etc. kids are supposed to have temp checked b4 practice. some coaches make the kids wear masks to practice have their temp checked and they can remove their masks when practices start. Kids wear masks all day at school. If a kid gets covid they are forced to quarantine from all school activities. If someone at school or a team has been in contact with someone who has tested positive the whole team has to quarantine or people in classes or school buses that have had contact of 15 mins within 10 feet.
Publix requires masks, as well as just about every business such as tj maxx or target. there are some businesses that have made it clear they don't require masks, but some counties have policies that supersede that. It is rare that you will see someone indoors other than restaurants that is not wearing a mask.
Florida has lots of outdoor dining and the tables are socially distanced. but if you don't feel comfortable then don't go.
The virus does not do well in UV sunlight. If you are outdoors the virus is killed in 90 secs in sunlight. your chance of getting it during a match is minimal and as far as I know there hasn't been a single case attributed to the spread by playing soccer. The biggest issue with kids is when they get out of school and after soccer practice they go over their friends houses in groups of 10 and hang out and watch movies. teenage boys and girls do the same things we were doing at 16-18 years old.
I understand if you have reservations about traveling, staying at hotels, etc but others have higher tolerances for risk. The biggest difference is in Florida they have kept most things open and life is pretty close to normal with some adjustments. But we don't feel that we have lost individual freedoms. In Mass you think you know better than everyone else and want to force your ideals and make everyone else conform to you. So you know what don't come, the showcase will go on without you. Everyone I have heard from regarding Greer SC had positive things to say. I look forward to enjoying watching the kids be kids.
