These are both great pickups by Scorpions. Right LR? These 2 girls both play at a very high level. Scorpions still behind Blue, but are making a clear cut case for #2 U-15 team in New England.

That level being NPL? Where does Surf play these days?

You guys are all missing the point. This 2008 Surf team was GPS’s top “National” team before that organization imploded. Somehow AP convinced the entire team to move together to Surf and they have stayed together since. They dominate whatever terrible leagues they are in and show well against the other top local teams in tourneys.

Those tuned into the landscape have been wondering when the group would finally break up. Looks like that time is now.

I didn't realize that Surf team was the old GPS Red team. They were a group to be reckoned with back in the day.

This is the best explanation I’ve seen. Basically, this team is the last group of untapped talent (maybe the Bolts team from Western Ma too?). Aztecs, Liverpool, Bayside, etc… have all been stripped bare so Select and NEFC have been stagnant and Scorpions and Stars have been left to trying to pillage Select and NEFC.

Now it may be a race between Scorpions, Stars and NEFC to grab some fresh faces. Select is probably too far away in Hingham.

Most of the stuff in this thread is overreaction and overstatement based on trying to make one feel better about a daughter’s situation as a player. The reality is that the differences between teams and leagues is less dramatic than the difference in motivation and skill within each player over time— no club will give you heart enough to stay in the sport, no league will drag you to get better. But instead of face that harsh reality it’s better to bicker about clubs (or even individual players on OTHER clubs) and leagues.

The part about the kid needing heart etc is spot on. But saying club/league is not important is wrong. I spent the weekend watching some DPL and Impact teams play each other and was shocked at how bad the soccer was.

so did Scorpions actually pick up those 2 really good New England Surf center backs? Did they leave to Scorpions? OP threw it out there last week, but no confirmation. I'll assume it was just a rumor. Friends of parents of a local Surf player on that team and they haven't mentioned anything. They said same team as last year's powerhouse. Good ole ts. Great for rumors, but little for actual substance

Have to say, it's so nice to be able to play competitive games to get the girls back together after high school. Top bracket of NEFC Tourney has the top teams from SUSA, Scorps, SSS and NEFC and all games have been determined by a single goal so far. Granted some teams are working in new players and missing girls to vacations, injuries, etc but this is so much better than playing lopsided games as has become the norm at so many local tourneys.

Anybody stuck behind in DPL is playing weak teams and competition, so it is really hard to tell how good of a player they really are. Players that have high soccer aspirations, need to play against the best competition they can, to know how they really stack up in the grand scheme of things.
