Trap team will be 08 8th graders, including those 09’s. In 2026/27 they will all finally play with the 09’s and perhaps by then you will have gotten therapy and stopped complaining about girls WHO ARE NOT YOUR DAUGHTERS.

Post September 08s are in 9th this fall. Class of 2026

Pre September 08s are in 8th this fall. Class of 2027.

These are the only truly trapped players, by definition. They are 08s on an 08 ECNL team who don't have a fall club season because birthyear teammates born before September are in high school and they aren't.

Now let's talk about the 09s.

On blue, these 09s are only trapped because they play up an age group. These are true 7th and 8th graders by the same formula above. They should all join their 09 ECNL blue team in the fall and ride or die with that team.

If nothing changes, and nothing will, next year those same 09s whose parents and coaches force trapped them this coming season, will be actually trapped (again) the following year.

This is done because Stars could care less about the player and their development. This year they cared about 8th graders playing for a national championship, with 7th grade ringers carrying the team.

For the next 2 years, these shining 09s will either be warming a bench for their prep schools JV team, or worse they'll be playing in a league that is lower than the impact league.

Those 09s are being set up to fail and the only one who cares seems to be me, BUT I'M NOT THEIR FATHER.

This is so spot on and these 09s AND selects 09s that play up are in the same boat. They’ll be riding the bench “playing varsity” (ok) in actuality as practice players and being yes, set up to fail. Im not their father either but I also care because this is history repeating itself.

So the futures of these girls depend on having one more fall club season before high school, and foregoing a higher level of club competition for five years. Got it. Makes a ton of sense, thank you untriggered caregivers. All these Sally Struthers weeping for these girls, maybe you can start a gofundme for them.

Missing 3 months may set them back a year or more. You're dreaming if you think it won't have an affect on them negatively as they mature. Hope this youngling grow up to be Jedi's and not Jabba the hutt. Happy they played up though. Where does your mom live in Westford? should I need to send the Gofundme proceeds. Tool

Real simple ; the 09s (8th grade this fall) play for their 09 teams respectively. Not so simple ;the 08s born after aug 31 ( also 8 graders this year ) . That should be a dialog. Personally I feel they should be able to petition respective leagues to play in the fall for 09 teams. I know this could make a big impact but feel it is fair

I’m sure the 2009s already have a roster of 18-20. Adding another 6 players from the Aug 31st- Dec 31st 2008s would steal playing time from those kids.

4 months / 12 months = 1/3rd of kids; are trapped in both 8th and 12th grade. It’s a pain in the ass for a huge chunk of each birth year cohort.

Many leagues already have such allowances for trapped players.

If GA makes these allowances for trapped players it may help Select and NEFC retain players longer before jumping to ECNL in 8th grade.

The leagues have the rule, but in practice, it doesn’t solve the issue. The age group below typically has a full roster, so playing those “older” players in the fall just causes more problems. My kid was a trapped ECNL 8th grader and none of those kids played games for the younger group even though it’s allowed (2 players per game).

I do think that grad year makes the most sense, but, at this point, my kid wouldn’t want it to switch back (for her). It is annoying for college coaches (many are vocal about it), but they have no choice but to deal with it. They could try to phase grad year in at younger ages, but changing back would require a lot of agreement among different league boards and club owners. Not likely.

Take the season to do privates. Privates cost about $60-100. Two privates a week. Plus focus on strength and agility training. See if your kid can practically and scrimmage with a comparable team in your club. Attend games to watch, learn and support.

Please explain how it fundamentally changes how college coaches recruit?

It shouldn't, any more than it would for another sport where players of different graduating classes compete on the same team. Basketball coaches don't have a problem knowing which player on an AAU or high school team is from which class, I think soccer can brave those difficult evaluation rapids.
