Most likely, and furthermore you may not even find many sports scholarships will be offered in any sports. The economic fallout from the coronavirus on college athletic budgets can not be underestimated. There will be massive budget shortages in all departments of the schools and there will be massive cuts across the board, look for sports scholarships to be drastically reduced or even eliminated all together. Tough for colleges to give out sports money when the sports aren’t even being played.

It’s a bitter pill for all the kids and parents who have spent tons of money on high priced youth soccer it could be the beginning of the end of the crazy expensive national youth leagues. When the carrot of a D1 ride doesn’t exist it will be hard to justify all of the travel and expense that comes with the national leagues.

Schools are absolutely slashing and burning. Some programs will take an instant hit with many teams already cut (99% less popular sports like golf and tennis). Others will start to make team and scholarship cuts moving forward. All a football school has to do is cut those scholarships by 1/3 plus 1-2 men's teams and there goes dozens of women's title 9 scholarships.

Schools were already under pressure to re evaluate the role and cost of athletics. At many schools athletic departments run in the red (you need big football or basketball with TV to make $). Covid is accelerating it as schools are fighting for survival. Even if athletics doesn't cost a school to much, cutting a few things sends a message to families that academics are the priority.

Not sure how much longer they can push it back as it's already gone in so long. Big football and basketball especially wants to get going. Even if the NCAA allows it again many schools have restricted campus visits and coach travel. Recruiting will be a rocky road for awhile

We don't play because of some mythical carrot. Participating in high-level soccer in search of a college ROI won't work out for 99% of families, ours included. By the same token, my kid doesn't take horseback riding lessons to get an equestrian scholarship, she doesn't ski to get a skiing scholarship nor a shot at the Olympics, either.

The only justification anyone needs is if they are having fun learning to thrive in a competitive environment and enjoy spending time together as a family.

You are in the minority with that view point. ECNL advertises and hangs its hat on college placement, the majority of people I know as well as the parents on my kids team have their kids play ecnl because of the exposure it gives them to college coaches. PERIOD. Without that D1 carrot ECNL is a lot less attractive.

I may have missed your point, when you referenced "ride". Exposure to college coaches is a consideration, but not any financial gains to be made. Period.

Side note....the way you put it "parents have their kids play...." is quite disconcerting. Kids should be playing because they want to, not because their parents have them to.

We don't view this as anything other than another time-consuming, expensive endeavor.

              PERIOD.

Offers are still going out though. 2 players on my D's 2004 team just got pretty substantial offers within the last 2 weeks. 1 Big East, 1 A-10

For many soccer families its not the financial payoff but getting into a better school than one might without soccer

                      Has that changed?

I'm not in the habit of speaking on other's behalf typically. I'll only answer for ourselves: playing the game to learn to overcome obstacles and succeed in a team environment. It's fun, the travel is fun, the game is fun, having friends from all over is fun. Where that leads, time will tell.

The dead period just means coaches can't run ID camps nor travel to see players play in tournaments or games. Players can't visit schools. The dead period doesn't stop phone calls, emails or zoom meetings, nor does it stop coaches from giving unofficial offers now that we're past June 15 for 2004's.

Players can visit schools, they just can't talk to the coaches.

They can do general school tours but right now almost no schools are doing tours. Even pre Covid summer was always a lousy time to visit a campus. Hopefully they had already checked out the school before March when everything shut down.

My player loves soccer and can’t wait to play matches again. They don’t care about scholarship amount. We are blessed to be able to pay for college. My player is also blessed with having multiple D1 options but my player cares about if they like the school, coaches and team. Visiting has helped narrow their list but there are still several more colleges they haven’t been able to see yet due to Covid. All are across the country which makes it even harder. If the NCAA is going to extend the dead period again, it would be nice to know so we can plan accordingly. Anyone have inside info on the dead period specifically?
