I mean, in the long run, if you can't play there, the number of emails won't matter, but if you can, then it will keep your name in front of them. And, there are times when we are referencing a player, and may pull up all the emails and say well, this player's only written us twice so she must not be that interested, or this player has been emailing us for 3 years so she's interested. The emails aren't going to land you a spot ultimately, but it will communicate a level of interest...but there is a fine line. Don't be the one who sends an email every 4 days for 3 years either :) And, make sure she's writing them---we can tell and would rather being hearing from them in their own words. Ninth graders speak a certain way, even if they are smart.
I agree completely about a player writing the coach directly in their own words. Is it advisable/okay for a parent to proofread their email before sending it? Or do the errors help you know it’s actually a kid?

Lol, I think proofreading is fine....you don't know the number of emails we get that say "I really want to play soccer at [insert name of wrong college]! Or, they forget to change salutation from last coach they just emailed. Lol. To me, that's worse than minor grammatical errors, I wouldn't stress too much about those.

Not the coach, but I’d proofread it. Kids don’t use email, it’s all text, Snapchat, etc. First time my D went to send an email, she entered everything on the subject line and nothing in the body.

Hahaha. Mine used abbreviations for everything. Works in text or social media. E-mail is a letter somewhat/more formal.

Lol! I tried to tell her that it was like writing a letter and she had no idea what that was. They taught them letter writing in 3rd grade, but nothing since.

You mentioned earlier rewarding a player with extra scholarship money if funds are available, and you obviously track everything from fitness times to soccer stats. My question is how often do you take away scholarship money? If you have a good kid who works hard and is in good academic standing, but who just isn’t meeting expectations in terms of on field performance, fitness, or injury, are they at risk of losing scholarship money so you can make a better offer to the next hot thing?

It is an NCAA violation to revoke scholarship based on athletic performance

Other than a P5, isn't a renewable yearly offer for scholarship?

Yeah, and jaywalking is a crime but it happens. I guess to rephrase the question, is it common that a player would see their scholarship amount fall or rise over the course of their college career for whatever reason?

The vast majority of scholarships in Women's Soccer are one year deals. Up until a few years, ago there was no such thing as a multi year scholarship, but now this is a thing, mostly in big revenue sports. Also, the P5 created their own rules a few years back to protect athletes against scholarships being cancelled for performance. Bottom line is they are one year deals, and the coach is the one who determines if they are renewed.....so coaching changes are the biggest issue that may impact this.

However, I will say most schools are going to act extremely ethical when it comes to this. We have never taken money away from a player (even had a player on a FULL ride kicked off team for multiple violation of team rules and kept her on the payroll b/c we were told that when athletes appeal, the committee at our school will always find in favor of the athlete unless there was some extreme situation with a crime etc). It certainly CAN happen but most schools act very ethically when it comes to this and I think the general thought is if we made the offer is the first place, then we need to hold up our end of the bargain, even if it's a handshake.

I find it incredibly funny that people are actually asking questions to someone who says they are a D1 coach on an anonymous forum. Of course it could be 100% true. Or not. So why would you even listen to this person? If this was a D1 coach trying to help parents and kids navigate it seems there are better ways to do it. Certainly not here and certainly not anonymously.

Agreed, but have enjoyed reading, getting suspicious now..no way does a legitimate D1 coach have this much time on her/his hands

I would think they have more pressing matters right now than this board, especially in light of Ivies announcing no fall sports or Stanford cutting 11 teams.
