As I military vet with PTSD I actually prefer that would not play the anthem before sporting events.
The anthem reminds me of my time deployed and that always makes me think of the trauma of being tricked by a military recruiter when I was only 17 to go kill civilians so that the corporate class can have their oil.

Of which you use that by-product of said oil to type your response.
Wish I could fight a war on foreign soil to guarantee the wider use of green energy but I don't think the Green New Deal has any plans to put guns in the militaries hands to make that a reality. Instead we head overseas to continue the status quo and maintain chaos in an area that we can then leverage to our advantage.
Arena is entitled to his opinion and made valid points. It’s not like the national anthem is (or should be) played in every setting like work, school, etc. He said it should be played before international matches, but not necessarily domestic games. Also said many of the MLS players were not Americans, which makes it awkward because spectators wonder why they aren’t participating.
Arena also has a great record. I wouldn’t lay the failures of the USMNT at his feet.

2 points.
1: Arena has never understood the nuance of the game, but he recognized how Americans play and utilized to some extent. Much like Dorrance.
2: I hate when they play the Canadian and National anthem.
Probably lucky they don’t play 3 or 4 anthems at baseball or MLS matches...

I love quotes like this. You are insinuating that you have a better understanding of the game than Arena and Dorrance.
If so, why aren’t you a major player in the development of US players. There are so many people who post that they know more than the most successful coaches we have, but for an inexplicable reason aren’t involved in US soccer and are instead posting on TS.
It’s a shame, wish you guys/girls would just share your knowledge so we could move the game forward.

I do.
And I have shared that understanding with hundreds of players over the years, including some elite levels.
But enough about me.
Dorrance has long been criticised for his style of play, albeit very successful.
Arena plays a tough, run and gun style, perfect for US players. He does not “want to hear about the beautiful game”
He was miserable with his last job with the US.
Plus, he’s a bit insufferable.
Good luck with the Revs
If you care to discuss, I look forward to discussion.
Can we please separate sport from military service? Can we please separate the anthem from military service? The anthem is the national anthem, it does not only belong to the military
I do.

Arena is actually pretty straightforward and entertaining compared to Mr. “let me tell you what you want to hear” Berhalter. I recall he didn’t like USSF’s scheduling a game against Costa Rica in NYC a few years ago because the Costa Rican fans would outnumber the Americans in the stands (he was right).
