    College Fall 2020

The financial risk to colleges remaining closed this Fall is extremely high. The risk of Covid on the student demographic is extremely low. How should they play it?

My guess is many will have some type of on campus class environment but not sure about sports

Covid has negatively impacted 13 people in the entire country 15-24 years old
      https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/COVID19/

Mountains of data show little risk to the athletes. Colleges COULD announce that they are planning for no fans (very responsible) and will stream all the games. Should we learn more by fall, and culture and infrastructure evolve, fans could be allowed when appropriate.

Risk of Covid spread to students on campus probably runs highest to lowest as Parties/Bars, Cafeteria, Dorm Bathrooms, Student Gym, Athlete Gym, Athletic Games, and finally classrooms.

If campus is open at all, there is no epidemiological reason to suspend sports. There are economic and social reasons tho.

Now if only all the professors and support staff were 18-24 as well. Then you'd really be on to something.

I wonder how many of you are picturing some rural LAC where what you're saying at least sounds doable. Think about 50,000 students returning to places like Ohio State and Michigan, and major universities all over the country with 20,000-30,000.

Faculty and Staff are a concern, no question.
Lets ask them: What do you think there answer is going to be to
            Would you rather....
            a) See your college fail and have many of your colleagues lose their job, potentially you too
            b) Open with a variety of precautionary measures and various accommodations. Your suggestions welcome

Everyone wants B, but sadly, Mr. Trump has not prepared us to do that yet.

They obviously need to be prepared for an outbreak which might mean sending everyone away again. They will set it up to keep the chances of an outbreak as absolutely low as possible.

Will you stop backward blaming. Your academic friends are at best looking at pay cuts and many will lose their jobs

We need to accept the situation for what it is, and focus on what Colleges CAN DO right now to save the fall class. If they don't many won't make it. Do you to help?

You mean like we tried to do when there was one case in Washington state? And when we had 15 cases that Donald said would very quickly be down to zero....the same guy who insisted over and over that we had the virus completely under control? Gook luck!.

Harvard, with over $40 billion in endowment, took $9 million from the government payout.
As did many others where politicians went to school.
Sounds like new turf will be going in...

I don't make the rules. I am guessing they will try to run a socially distanced campus with classes and labs and no sports. That is my guess. You think they will not return to campus in any form at all and some think they will have sports. We will all see soon enough.

Hmmm... stream games on a pay channel? This makes them the money they need to support other programs? This could be football in 2020.
