So the non-MLS clubs will be paying for the kids at the MLS Academy program. Another money grab?
    Nailed it.

MLS clubs wanted the power and money, US Soccer tried to save face by pointing fingers at Covid-19.

Today’s announcements are nothing more than a formalization of the colonization of youth soccer markets by MLS, a modern day Berlin Conference. MLS control over youth soccer markets has always been in the long term plan.

Expect an announcement on the expansion of the Revs Development League in the coming weeks.

The Revs won’t be free anymore 😂

Oh sure they do. Must be why so many got into GDA to begin with. Oh wait, that didn't happen. NYCFC ring a bell?. The only market MLS sees for girls soccer would be to make money off parents. For quite some time it will be a mens game only; the only women's teams making money is the WNT.

They should have a division where the U19 girls play the U14 boys so the girls can be challenged by the faster speed of the game.

Clearly MLS is about boys and only boys.

Maybe as a profit center. Will never be free like it is for the boys.

They will keep rearranging the deck chairs and parents will keep shelling out money for no reason. Too bad soccer could not be done at the local/regional level but that Genie is out of the bottle. There is an opportunity because USSF just gave a lot of parents and players a big middle finger. Remember that when you’re standing in line at Foxboro watching the ****ty Revs some day getting a $12 beer and think of the owner was getting a hand job at your expense.
They wish. They weren't involved in girls youth soccer when we won the women's world cups. Had they been we would have missed the cut there too.

Agreed. This will be great. I hope MLS is now in on the international transfer system. The clubs that do it right should make money on players they have invested in for years.

Yes, great plan to have u14 MLS teams kicking the crap out of u19 girls teams on a regular basis. Other than feeling the girls up on hard tackles, they get nothing out of it. Listen dad of a girl, what don't you understand? MLS is a men's league and is not responsible for anything but profiting from their men's teams. Having boys academies should help them develop their own future. The girls side is a waste if time and resources for them and something they couldn't care less about. If anything they would truly use it to make money and for little else (which was the problem of DA/GDA and ECNL as well). If they were to have girls teams, would they be free? Where would their top youth coaches be placed? You couldn't find a better 2nd fiddle for them than desperate girls soccer parents willing to Shell out a fortune so their kid can wear a jersey with Etihad across her chest (and an embroidered patch sleeve too).

This isn’t the same as the international model, a population with the density of Eastern MA would have several pro clubs in most other countries, larger towns and cities in other areas of New England would also have pro clubs. These clubs would be incentivized to develop youth players to sell or better their first teams.

The majority of international clubs and national programs also have extensive scouting and coaching networks, expertise and the trust of local communities. MLS clubs have neither and it will take decades to build. The only country with a comparable soccer environment to the US is Australia.

Short term, very little will change. Former Boys DA clubs will form their own leagues with crossover games or friendlies to give MLS academies local competition. Long term the gains or losses will be marginal for developing soccer players, but overwhelmingly positive for the bank balances of MLS execs.

It's a great deal for MLS. The money goes right to the MLS, not US Soccer. The non-MLS clubs will fund, or subsidized the MLS (free) academies. Expect the fees for the non-MLS academies go jump in the 2021-22 season! This structure will help with the added costs of travel for the MLS Academies. Many of the MLS academies struggled to support their DA teams. The money that MLS is getting now from this venture should go back into the system, and help make the MLS academies stronger.

The only question is how many non-MLS clubs want to pay to support this system? From past experience, we saw lots of clubs wanting to do so. IMO, I think US Soccer did a good job of giving value to all the DA members. In my dealings with MLS programs, they were pretty arrogant towards the non-MLS programs. I think the arrogance needs to be kept in check or clubs will head to ECNL.

^ the arrogance is usually justified.
