Quick summary. 101 ECNL clubs. 46 GDA clubs. They all want into ECNL. ECNL is cherry picking the GDA clubs it wants. The more clubs that leave GDA, the worse the travel gets.

Will GDA close shop or start picking through clubs 148 on down the totem pole to back fill the spaces vacated by the good clubs that leave GDA?

Why are so many clubs leaving GDA?

Noncompetitive games, high cost, far travel, no high school play, etc.

Awful substitution rules which are counter productive to “Development.”

To be fair, the purpose of the GDA is to identify players that can realistically join the USWNT, which means players that can handle 90 minute games.

46 clubs x18 kids team is 864 kids per age group. They all realistically joining the WNT?

No, they can't. And that is why GDA is a failure. It's designed to only be a benefit to a couple of girls a year and a detriment to the other 900.

Problem and the only reason the Maryland teams are in Northeast is that they play high school in fall while Va and south play in the spring. Maryland teams will continue to stay in the Northeast

Seacoast would make the most sense geographically. Anybody going to Mendon can already either be served by Taunton or Lancaster.

Nobody wants to go to Epping .... ever. Especially if you are a team that is not from Boston area.

Having more central neutral grounds would help with games between geographically disparate teams. Have a rule that the average drive has be be less than x hours or the teams split the cost of renting elsewhere, or the league pitches in. ? Just thinking out loud...

A prior poster in response to the subbing rules stated that GDA was designed to prepare girls for WNT competition (90 minutes of fitness!). Another posted shared WNT aspirations realistically apply to 2 girls per team.

No one is saying GDA is wrong in its development philosophy. They were simply wrong in gauging market demand. ECNL is the preferred choice for most families because it fulfills its' promise of college pathway, and allows HS. Not saying ECNL is better, just saying the majority of better players are choosing it. Because of that, the majority of better clubs are now choosing ECNL too. It doesn't look good for GDA.

What are you doing guys! We had a great player from our town who won the State HS Championship for us.
                                Then:
She transferred to a private HS.
Travelled up to Boston to practice with a boys club team.
Would fly out to Virginia to play games for a Virginia club team.
                                Played for Virginia
                                Transferred to BC
                                ????
                                For What?
                                Cream rises to the top
You don’t need to spend all this money on soccer
