    Stars - Team Levels

    Last year:
    ECNL = top team
    NPL = second team

    This year:
    ECNL East = top team
    ECNL West = second team (NPL from last year)
    Northeast NPL = third team (mix of NPL from last year and other kids)

    What happens next year with the addition of an ECNL regional league? Does this replace the Northeast NPL? Or does the ECNL West team move to the regional league? Or is this yet another layer and a way to add more "elite" teams? In which case Northeast NPL players move to ECNL regional league? And then Central United becomes Northeast NPL level? So stupid.

    Obviously they'll grab some new kids from tryouts but this constant re-shuffling makes no sense.

    ECNL regional league is just NE NPL with a new name. not a big deal.

      By calling the players "Elite" vs. "Premier", they can charge 10% more

        So you know for sure that the Northeast NPL is going away? I can't find any specific information about it. Wondering because of tryouts coming up..

          Doubt Northeast is going away. Stars typically just adds teams into leagues and moves existing teams up. They then backfill with lower leagues, give them a new, cooler name, and charge a few $$ more for the privilege.

            Stars isn’t the only club that does this. They all do. Years ago there was ECNL, NPL and then NEP for girls in this area and that was broken down by Premiership, Championship, League. Top of NEP was “Premiership”. Now that’s filled with lower level teams that used to play in the championship level. New England NPL is now the new NEP premiership. And so on. I’m sure NPL will hold on as a league and lower level teams from other clubs like GPS, NEFC, Western Pioneers, Aztec, etc will move into it. As more and more teams and clubs are formed because everyone is leaving their town league they flood divisions and so more are created. Anyone who knows anything realizes what’s going on. So who cares? I know what a typical NPL team is like so now that will be a typical ECNLRL team. I don’t care about letters and leagues. A good player is a good player. A decent player is a decent player. And so on.

              Right, but you can charge more if that player has "Elite" to their name than if they have "Premier"

              Elite is better. Probably 10% better.

                Yeah they all will do it. When a low level GPS team is now in NPL they will up their fee as well. Nature of the beast.

                  Thought this was a Stars thread?

                    Stars had DA last year. West team was added, DA dropped.

                      Same for GDA which was renamed from NPL.

                        How so?

                        Many teams and players in GDA were in NPL; same as with any other league. Doesn't mean the leagues and training is the same....just like with any other league.

                        Carefuly, your jealousy is showing again.

                          I thought this was a Stars thread. Stars didn't want to commit to all the necessary work to stay in GDA, so why bring it up?

                            Exactly. Think about it. As it is now, the Northeast NPL is part of NPL, but not really. They operate independently of the New England NPL, which is where those teams should be placed geographically (Stars, Scorps, CFC, FSA). Instead they exist on their own in a "Northeast" conference with only clubs that already have ECNL. So they aren't really competing with the other NPL clubs where they should be. So it makes sense that the ECNL will split off and eventually create all these "regional" leagues that will give them full control of those teams rather than leaving them in the NPL. Texas already did it. Northeast is next. I bet there will be more popping up all over the country over the next few years and they will represent the second teams for all ECNL clubs and under one new league (except we know a few already have 2 teams like Stars and PDA so those will be 3rd teams, yes). Eventually there will be a second league which is an offshoot of ECNL that has all the second teams and the structure will mirror the ECNL exactly. If you think about it, it makes perfect sense for the ECNL to take control of that league...because they can. So the solution is simple: withdraw all the teams from the Northeast NPL and move/re-brand them as Northeast ECRL.

                            That said, I'm sure the lower level regional teams that play in the NEP could theoretically get promoted/relegated and eventually have a team in the New England NPL at some point. But their top NPL teams would now be the ECRL. So it is possible that in the future you could still see a Stars team in the NPL, but it won't be the third team and it won't be in the bracket with the top NEFC, Bayside, Aztecs, GPS, SSS, etc. teams.

                              And NEFC, SSS and Seacoast are doing the exact same thing at U12 and U13... their top teams will leave NEP and play in the new pre-DA league.
