College Coaches (Div 1) @ ECNL VS DA Girls Showcases 2019

Full disclosure my daughter plays DA.

I looked at the college coaches list for the Arizona Ecnl showcase and noticed some great schools from NE region and beyond. However the coaches listed on site were many times just "assistants" So this got me thinking (and would like some clarity) that -

    A. NE region head coaches just don't bother listing their name
*if so where the head coaches in fact there?
    B. They sent their assistant to ECNL event because of other obligations or perhaps feel it's a league that most girls are a two sport athlete?
*in fairness to the above question we will not know the entire story until the coaches list gets posted on DA site for CO
    C. Head coaches are saving their flight for the DA event In CO due to budget?

Discuss please (Please keep to minimum the ECNL vs DA Debate if you must) these are expensive outings for All NE families involved and warrent transparency.

College coaches have a budget. They attend several showcase events and head coaches go to the major ones and assistants are often sent. Spring season training is as important as fall games so they are quite busy right now. Often head coaches attend events in June when college is out for the summer. You are reading into things far too much.

Phoenix doesn't have as many teams participating so that could explain more assistants vs HC. ECNL has more events than GDA so some schools probably do have to pick and chose.
Assistants do a lot of the preening of lists/heavy lifting. Plus these days you almost have to go to an on-campus ID event where you will be playing in front of the entire staff.

Agreed it's a funnel process and mid-year showcase events serve both ends of the funnel - new ones to add, check-on commits already through. Exactly the role of the Assistant coach while the Head Coach is active with spring games.

          Answer is B (other obligations)

All D1 teams are active with spring schedule. Most had games this weekend

Lol. Going halfway across the country in the hopes some local coach sees your kid is the definition of insanity. If they are really interested they’ll come to a practice or “friendly.” Talk about drinking coffee he koolside. Just imagine if half the parents understood simple things like coaches don’t go to watch kids halfway across the country when they can see them in their backyard how few DA ie ECNL roster spots would get filled.

So don't go. We're dumb, you win.

In the meantime, I had a great time. Phoenix weather was perfect and those same local coaches, who have coming to regular season games, and local friendlies, came to our games halfway across the country to check on their commits/recruits and cast a few more lines into their favorite fishing hole.

I get it, but it's a spring season schedule, like an over hyped practice. You play kids that may have been injured all season, you have a shorter roster, move kids to other positions, etc.
So, would you have a full staff for these vs. checking out other potential players? Or maybe you do because your obligation as a coach is to your current team.

Knowing this, why would the leagues schedule these showcases? Dumb.

                  OP here.
I think you maybe on the outside looking in. Perhaps a NPL player parent or regional.

We get coaches at our home and away games as I am positive ECNL does. The questions do not surround where you are trying to turn this thread too. The decisions have been made on attendance to the fly events at sign ups in May, June. We are trying to discuss the coaches decisions. I did notice DA has the partle list out today to compare.

What is a typical recruiting budget for a major mid or top level soccer team? Just curious.

If the NCAA were to cap it, it might level out the playing field for some off the smaller schools who can't afford to keep up with the big dogs. For instance, some schools have their own planes or chartered flight accounts, etc.

When else should they schedule them? College teams run well into November, even longer if they're in playoffs. GDA has December, April and June (nationals). ECNL has 2 in the fall, then Jan, Feb, April, May and June (nationals). Plenty of options for both coaches and teams to chose from.

Not for women's soccer, no. Besides many schools pad their recruiting budgets with their camps and ID events. Totally unfair to restrict schools on how much they travel - that's up to the coach and AD at each school to decide. Or what if a school is in a remote location where cheap flights don't exist - is it fair to cap their spending?

ECNL seems to like showcases. Why not go the route of the GDA? Pick two times of the year and have your nationals. No wonder why people are livid about the costs of these leagues.

Depending on your age you only go to 2-3 ECNL events, just like GDA. So in having more events to chose from teams can pick what works best for them. East coast teams don't have to go to AZ or TX when they still have FL, NJ and SC.

GDA costs more than ECNL. GDA showcases are over the course of 5 days versus 3 day showcases for ECNL. Add in the extra cost of league travel and the cost of the extra day of training that is passed on to the players, ECNL is cheaper.
