Scorpions Soccer Continues it's U18 Fee Structure for 07-08

...please forgive the press release...some found it interesting last year, and asked how it was going...so here it is again...

Scorpions made a change in policy last year regarding the fee structure for U18 and U19 Scorpions. To reflect the lack of attention/value that older teams receive in return for their fees we have reduced their player fees.

As a gesture of appreciation any U18 player who has played with Scorpions for 3 full years or more will be charged $0.

Any U18 player who has played with Scorpions less than that will be charged $175.

This past year was the first year of this initiative, and so far, it has been a success. We were able to add several outstanding players to solidify the roster, and combined with the returning players the team looks primed to defend its State Cup Championship, while looking beyond that to compete at the Regional level. Most importantly, the girls are having fun training and competing together. The entire Scorpions Staff have contributed sessions to the group, and will lead the group to the end of this season. We will expect that the team will remain intact as U19s as well. The current U19s are also having fun reuniting for State Cup this season.

The current U18 group participated only in MAPLE and State Cup play this past season. The team did consider attending a tournament over the fall/winter period, but ultimately decided as a group against it. Any further training or competition will be at the discretion of the group that goes forward into next year. The feeling is that each group will differ in their requirements and ambitions by U18, so there is no need to do any unnecessary planning in June.

The team will not be assigned a permanent coach. Instead the Scorpions coaching staff will take responsibility for the team. It is likely that one coach or another will end up with primary responsibility but that isnt fully decided yet. In any case we will train the team as much as any U18 team can get together considering their schedules. No indoor training/competition plan has been set, but each player here will be invited to participate once it's solidified. Outdoor training will be at the Thayer Academy turf fields.

The only other cost for 18s would be the cost of the uniform. Our uniform manufacturer will remain unchanged for next year, so players who are currently in the team will have the option of playing in this year's uniform. New players will obviously need to purchase the uniform to participate in our full slate of events (MAPLE and State Cup).

If you are, or you know of, a talented player who may be interested in joining the Scorpions for their 2007-2008 U18 (or U19) season, please contact the Scorpions Staff for details...info@southcoastscorpions.com

Just thought I'd say that this sounds like a really nice program and it's great that it seems to fill the needs of these older players at a reasonable cost.

Fred and the boys are going to find this hard to believe coming from me, but the Scorpions did two really good things for soccer in Massachusetts this year. The first was to set up those weekends in March for interested clubs to play friendlies at Thayer and the second was this fee structuring for older teams. I particularly think the second may have a beneficial rippling affect, because it is going to force other clubs to reconsider their fees or risk losing players.
Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment.
