    Do #s matter?

My D is playing at a club with an A, B, and C squad and she's on B. She was assigned a number in the 20s. Never had a # that high before. Do #s matter or is it random? Will all girls in the age group be assigned a unique # or will there be a 10 or whatever on each of the three teams?

If the club is smart, they will make sure there is no overlap on numbers across the three teams, then if players move between teams, there's no issue with numbering.

      ^^ This.

I've seen clubs with numbers up into the 60's, and good players at that.

This is a rare example of TS being insightful. I think clubs have been pretty loose with #s, moving forward I think this poster is right. Question is will they be simplistic and first 20 numbers are for first team, or will they intentionally blend it so that it is not obvious when #31 is playing on A team

Yea this is typical - they want to be able to move between teams without having two kids playing w the same #.

I've seen it where it's the A team gets first round, B second, etc. But, not every team gets unis every year, and as teams change players get added and dropped. So, you could have a very high number and initially you think "wow that #45 is obviously a B teamer"; but it's not always the case.

the other posters are right that a lot of clubs are moving to a single run of numbers. I don't know why any club would intentionally "blend" as you suggest. That would take the value out of having a single set of numbers -- which is simple but sensible.

I didn't read blend as duplicate but rather as distributed so A team would have 1,2,5,8,14, etc. B team might have 3,4,9,10, and C Team would have 6,7,...

Reason to do this is that it is not obvious when player moves either up or down

                  Meh, who cares.

                  1-16 for A Team
                  17-32 for B Team
                  33-X for C Team

On my daughters team (first team) the numbers are low, they get higher on the second team... no two players in the same age group have the same number.

And why in the world would anyone propose complicating numbers like this? Kids are added. Kids drop out. Who cares if the numbers are off?

No idea who has time or energy to worrry about numbers. If you do, consider yourself very lucky.

The same for my d’s team. The majority started off young which is why they got to select their numbers first. As they got older, more kids were added, second and third teams created and the players picked whatever numbers weren’t already taken. Not a big deal. Just a number.
