First year in club soccer so bear with me. My daughter plays on a team where next year her age group will be pooled to form a top team. A girl on her team recently told her that she's already been to one ID clinic and was invited by email. My daughter did not receive an email. I don't want to ruffle feathers but do clubs do these kind of invitation only events before tryouts for the girls they are most interested in? Or could it be an oversight that my own kid wasn't included? Should I ask about it or does it seem intentional?

I hate to say this to you , but of course intentional. If this is your first year in club, that means your daughter too? Tel your daughter work hard to improve. She will get invites only if there is interest. You will be disappointment with the answer if you ask

First, let me ask you a serious question. Do you think your kid is better than the kid who got the invite? Or are they better than your kid? If so, how much is the divide? Do you have any clue as to who the strongest players on your current team are? Do the parents on sidelines ever discuss who the team “superstars” are? Did those players get the invite? These things are usually not a surprise, unless there is an obvious omission, that everyone would agree with. But parents know who the strongest players on the team are, and yes I would say that the invites were targeted to whom the coach deems the strongest players. If you honestly think that your kid should have received one, then ask. received one, then ask. But be ready to hear the answer you may not like.

Sounds like it was an intentional so we'll just keep working hard. I also assume not all invited will make the team so some of her teammates will probably be back.

^^^ I applaud your realism. Assuming they are young, it's not the end. Do what you said...have her keep working and see where it takes her.
If we gave up after the first slight 6 year ago, she absolutely would've regretted it and wouldn't have got the opportunities she's had later.
(Of course...I'd be a sh!t-ton richer, but I digress....)

I keep to myself though and don't really know who else did and did not really, she just heard from a couple. I guess I was just trying to learn if this is the usual way of doing things, that just certain girls are invited or if all girls in an age group are typically invited prior to tryouts. I can live with my daughter not being invited...I just don't want to embarrass myself by asking if it is only for the girls they want to see, but I also didn't want her to miss an opportunity if they were all supposed to go.

Not all players will make the higher level team and not all players who are offered will accept. The higher level teams come with higher demands for travel, practices that can be further away than is ideal, etc.

Best bet is to ask her coach/DoC what your D needs to work on to be recommended for the higher level teams next year. Don't take it personally, but also understand you are the customer and a detailed end-of-season player evaluation should be provided. Politics can absolutely play a role in promotion, but it is usually only a factor when players of similar ability/level are being considered and a DoC has a limited number of recommendations to provide.

For the girls attending the ID clinics, will they typically receive an offer prior to tryout week? Just curious. Obviously doesn't pertain to me this year!
