based on what? players and coaches come and go. as new coaches come along they change the program based on what they see needs to change. it's always in a state of flux. then there's the high pressure (depending on the coach/program and especially when athletic scholarships are involved) to give soccer #1 priority over academics - most parents would not want that.

I would say find the best school academically for your kid where he will actually get to play.

Absolutely 100% go for the best SCHOOL for your player and don't get caught up in rankings that vary wildly year to year. If he gets to play at a great soccer program, fantastic. If it's mediocre? That's great too as long as he's playing and happy and more importantly LEARNING. In the end that is what matters. Even if it's a garbage program but the school is good? All good. The benefits of playing soccer like team work, time management and other life lessons will be gained no matter where a team finishes out.

I want to know too (Not the OP).

What about comparing Black Rock's Prep Academy (the best prep players, by invitation only) vs DA?

In MA go prep. Elsewhere it isn't so clear cut. A good player with good academics will have loads of opportunities to play at good schools.

Serious question...When you say 'prep' do you mean ISL or schools like SJP? I am trying to figure out which one holds more weight.

The problem with a SJP is they play in the regular HS league. They are usually one of the best but the competition is weak. Top ISL is better. Note the SJP players are going D3 this season. If that is the level you want, play there.

I think Needham would run all over the top pansy preps.

In CT go prep as well.

Prep = nepsac (Berkshire, South Kent, Hotchkiss, Canterbury, Loomis Chaffee, Northfield Mount Herman etc etc)

The reason Needham has been good in the past is all the wealthy folks there send their prodigy to top club teams to train. As DAP teams have begun to clamp down on waivers, it will be harder for their elite players to see the field there. Don't see any Needham players on this year's list. Might want to win your region before you talk trash.

ISL and other good prep soccer schools are an excellent option if you combine it with academy or top NPL. I know of many players getting serious D1 and D3 looks and some are only juniors. One junior is sitting on two good D1 offers with athletic and merit money. Another prep junior just committed to a top 80 D1 school with 95% free ride ( combination of financial aid, athletic and scholarship money). Seriously check out these schools - application deadline is Jan 15th!

You don't need DA or expensive private school (private, not boarding/prep) to play D3. If you're aspiring for top D12 then DA and/or prep is a good route, but one certainly with no guarantees. But it you're shooting for lower level D1 or D2 or D3 enjoy HS and play high level club, save your money for college. Only do private or prep if it's for academic reasons, not for sports.

You are making my point. They'd still wipe the field with pansy prep players.

DA is better. The only ones who will tell you different is the prep school parents.
                              Just ask any college coach.

List so far looks pretty good for prep school kids. The soccer competition isn't the same level as DA but it's still quite high. Combined with good academics these kids do just fine. Most parents only care about the college anyway.
