Only if they are getting athletic money.

Once you realize that grades are generally much more important than soccer ability you start to research what schools actually look for. I suggest everyone start with academics rather than rely on athletics.

I'm using it to point out exceptions, which is a bit disingenuous.

I used this type of info to help my son reverse engineer a college contact list that best correlated his academic achievement and soccer potential. He marketed himself to a group of roughly 25 schools and he's committed to one that lived in the "reach" pool of the top 5 schools on his list(top 5/middle 15/safety 5).

Go to Google and type in: [school name] common data set

Pay particularly close attention to: FIRST-TIME, FIRST-YEAR (FRESHMAN) ADMISSION

That will show you the numbers that applied by gender, the numbers admitted, and the numbers that actually enrolled.

All the other data below the admit info reflects the stats for actual ENROLLED freshman.

It's very useful to any parent with children headed to college.
Why so many schools? Was his GPA and SAT/ACT on the low side so you wanted to improve his odds? Was it a mix of D1, D2 and D3 schools or just D1?

I had the same reaction. Good for Aztec and those boys. They must be doing something right.

Most kids apply to at least 9-10 schools. 3 reaches, 3-4 best fits, 3 safeties. What the guy is basically saying is that kid are getting into the schools that they should get into whether it be D3 or D1 and that soccer isn’t really that much of a factor.

Which begs the question, how many on that commitment list are going to sign one. That is what a commitment is generally understood to be.

When starting the process early in his sophomore year it made sense to cast a very wide net.

He didn't apply to 25 schools this Fall. The list dwindled from its original incarnation based on demonstrated interest(or lack there of) from coaches, school visits, anticipated major and academic fit.

In the end he applied to 15 schools. He maintained 5 reaches but only 3 were on his original list. There were 7 schools he considered a mix of good fit/better than 70% chance of being admitted. He only applied to 3 safeties.

You'll have your answer on NLI signing day. Every club will post them to Twitter and Facebook.

You sound awfully bitter. You obviously haven’t ever interacted with anyone in admissions. The earlier poster was right. Any kid with a spot on a team gets scored for athletics in admissions. Third and last time through.

No one is getting into a top level D3 unless they have the grades to get in. It’s not like you have a whole lot of kids getting into reach school just because of soccer. Anyone who says otherwise is spreading misinformation.

Yes they score them just like a normal extracurricular activity

                            That list will dwindle considerably

I guess you don’t believe in the ranges.

So now kids getting into schools that they should get into is something special? How low can we drop the bar to ensure everyone feels good about themselves.
