Originally posted by UnregisteredThought the goal was to get an education so who really cares what it takes to get on the field. That being as it may the fact is grades are all that matter when it comes to getting admitted to the schools you list and all soccer can do at best is sway the decision between two qualified applications. That only happens in a very low number of cases.
My takeaways from the list:
It is a big deal for boys to have an opportunity to play in college. It is an opportunity.
Some stick with it, and some don’t. Colleges, even D3 schools, offer many opportunities, kids unfortunately get hurt, and new players come in every year.
Soccer does play a role in getting kids admitted to college. As we can see from this list, not a lot of kids out of the many who are playing, but for those in top programs, it does help. It demonstrates commitment and sacrifice, and that commitment is scaled by every school. Ask any admissions officer at any school.
Of course college is about education, but this is a soccer site.
I, for one, appreciate the efforts of OP. It is interesting to see the choices and opportunities.

This thread is like giving cows in the line to be slaughtered their 25 minutes of fame. It’s all good as long as you know what the end result is.

It gave both us a better perspective on what was realistic and what could happen once he started playing in college. I've made the next player read it as well. I could care less where players come from other than maybe a DA vs non DA perspectivebut all you have to do is read the list to see the obvious information. However I'm going to make a club choice based on that. There's enough club bashing on this site as it is, plus the never ending "if your player isn't NT they might as well play rec soccer" diatribes.
