Committing to playing college ball is a commitment, dollars or no dollars, NLI or no NLI.

No parent is peacocking on the sidelines with a shirt that reads "My kid is playing college soccer but not getting any money." They all pretend they've been "recruited." They all act like it's full boat. Don't get me wrong, it's an accomplishment for the boys and I wish them the best. It's the nutjob parents misrepresenting things that make me happy we're almost at the end of this process.

#1 - How big is local club soccer playing population and what sort of percentage of it does this list represent?

#2 - How many of the boys on this list are getting an actual athletic scholarship?

#3 - Of the boys getting athletic scholarships how many does anyone project will get more than 50% of their 4 year educational costs paid for by playing soccer?
#1 - the list isn't complete but does a good job. This list won't really be closer to finished until this coming summer. See prior year's for a more complete picture. As for what %age of club players it represents it's hard to say. It's certainly higher than the total number of boys playing HS but still a small #. See stats resource below. It also will focused on top leagues and clubs. The odds of getting recruited drop exponentially as you move down the soccer ladder.

#2 - again also hard to say. However, a fully funded program will only 9.9 scholarships to divvy up as the coach sees fit across 30 or so players. It doesn't take a math genius to figure out there isn't much to go around

#3 - see #2. 50% on the men's side is doing very well. Anything near or above that is for studs and international players. Boys are more in the 25% or less category. However, a school can sweeten an offer with academic money which stays with you all for years if you keep a good GPA. More importantly, being desired by a coach can give you an edge over other applicants and result in getting into a better school than you might without soccer (within reason - you still need good grades, just not top grades)

In other words, for boys the # ain't great. Boys' parents face a sad reality at some point. These threads should be required reading for any family well before recruiting starts, even better in junior high so they can start saving more money and hiring academic tutors. The better the grades the better your options

Why don't people just reply by hitting the quote button on the list by club, then remove the quote codes & add the new player?

              It's so easy.

Are people uncomfortable with the commits list being arranged by club?

There is some of that but most boys' families know anyone claiming it are bullshi**ing. Girls parents claim full rides even more often I've found. While the odds are far better it still is uncommon. A so called full is usually reached with combinations of athletic, financial aid and academic $. For boys 50% is great; for girls it's pretty common.

I think it's extra work that isn't necessary. For the general reader it's more important to see where the bulk of players wind up by level, then you can scan the list to see the clubs. IMHO anyway

I’m not sure where you are getting this. Playing in college is great for these kids. I hope mine are as fortunate as these boys.

I didn’t see anyone bragging about a fullride. I just saw a list of kids with an opportunity to play in college.

So thankful for the work you do for us on TS, BTNT. Who would we count on to disparage anything and everything in sight without you? You are just like Donald. Your insecurities and narcissism are never satiated. You are a darn big peacock, though.

You haven't really made it on TS until you've been wrongfully accused of being someone else. I'd like to thank all the silly posters that helped me along the way to reach my full potential.
