You realize it’s an algorithm based upon how the team has performed over not just the whole season but multiple years? You know, it’s not just the first game of the year in November? It also includes the last 6 games you lost to SSS. It also factors in the game at Jefferson cup where you gave up 9 goals and got blown out.

I do actually understand that. It’s all goal differential. You were just pimping NEFC a little too much.

I think this illustrates the problem. No one is suggesting P4 schools come recruit from Surf and Aztec. But do Holy Cross and BU and URI and Northeastern need to fly to ECNL and GA events or could they save their recruitment budget by driving to Danvers?

This board likes to pretend all D1 is P4. It isn’t.

Yes, since they are tasked with finding the best players possible, no matter where they are from. Because if you think they can get a team full of players from Danvers, frankly, you're an idiot.

No, I have a clear understanding of the point. Colleges recruit where they can see the most players with the least amount of effort. It's unfortunate that those in Danvers still think going to their game, to recruit 1-2 players who aren't being tested and properly evaluated, have at it.

Tell me you don't have any understanding of how a college athletic team recruits without actually saying the words. Well done.

It makes sense that those who benefit from the current system rail so hard against changing it.

Make no mistake about it: no one is finding the “best” players. They’re finding the best among those who can pay for the fees, travel, tournaments, etc. We’re now seeing the effects of that system in the failures of our national teams. But the parents convinced their kids are the “best” will fight tooth and nail not to change things. I get it. This board isn’t the right place to discuss this uncomfortable truth. After all, you’re all happily paying to ensure your kids don’t have to be the best of the best, just the best of those willing and able to play ECNL.

Like I said previously, I am an ECNL parent limping to the finish line of a 10+ year multi kid journey. I see what college coaches are bringing in to low ranked (again, NOT P4 or even top 100 schools) from low ranked ECNL teams and also low GA teams and it’s not good. The truth is that if you coach a low level local D1 program and a stud walks into your ID camp, and you won’t drive a half hour to watch her play locally but happily board your flight to whatever ECNL or GA event is happening to sign a kid on a bottom ranked ECNL or GA team who will do nothing for your program - you’re lazy and not a good recruiter. A good recruiter knows what they’re seeing.

I’m done with this conversation because like I said, the audience on this page can’t recognize the message at this point. I’m not talking about the Stars Blue kids committing to top programs. They deserve that. I’m talking about the bottom players on Scorpions getting more opportunities than the top players at Surf, Aztec, NEFC DPL on the North Shore etc. It’s lazy recruiting and the results reflect that. Now carry on believing your kid deserves more because you’re not skiing on Cape Cod or whatever silly analogy you used.

What a dynamic contribution to the conversation. Can’t rebut with facts so use a passive aggressive insult. You seem really invested in this. Local bad D1 coach?

BU actually has an Aztec recruit for 2025. Are you saying BU doesn’t understand recruiting? Or are they okay because they also have some Stars players?

They have one. Great for her.

That only proves the point, though. They found a single local player, that doesn't mean they abandon their search across the country for players that fit their model and positions for what they are looking there in a certain year.

                              You people don't take reason.

The idea that any college coach in any sport would ignore shopping where there are thousands of players vs. shopping where there are a dozen, I just cannot comprehend the logic.

Say, they go to Danvers to see what's there. They see two exceptional players, both not in a position of need for them. They may, MAY, still recruit that player and see if they can put a square peg in a round hole. More likely, they will look in another direction to find that position of need. While they were there, nothing else moved the needle. So, they need to move on to....where they can see thousands of players to fill that need.

                                conflating 2 different conversations

first conversation is about whether this is the best system to produce players. Answer is almost unanimously NO. System is exclusionary based on geography, finances, etc…

second conversation, is whether college coaches are lazy because they maximize their time and resources within the constraints of the current system. Most acknowledge that recruiting from ECNL/GA is the best use of the college’s resources. Yes, they miss good players. Yes, there are some players outside those leagues who may rate higher than players in the league. No, the coach should not become less efficient by visiting every team/league in the land looking for the hidden gem.

the system may be broken, but until the miraculous fix comes along, it is the system that we have. Each individual can choose between utilizing the current system or not. If you’re a gem and want to be discovered, go to where the coaches are looking.
