Really need to look at why your putting your kid in club. End of it all your hoping your kid is scouted and lands a spot on a college team. Doesn’t matter D1,2, or 3. That’s the dream of most players. So as long as your kid is at a club that has opportunities for exposure through GA or ECNL, they are fine. 4 clubs in MA offer these opportunities; NEFC STARS SSS AND scorpions. As long as your kid is in one of those clubs playing in their top teams 1st and even 2nd, they will get looked at. That’s why we say don’t worry about wins or records. Of course you want to win but end of the day the ballers on even the losing teams get a look.
So they will only get looked at if they play ECNL or GA huh? Those statements and the fact people believe them are so foolish. You can either play or you can’t. Doesn’t matter how good your team is or your league. You don’t need exposure 24-7. If your good…once exposure will do. Anyone who knows the game sees you and likes you, they will find you for more exposure. After all, that’s how some of your teams are put together…by your coaches accosting players after non ECNL and DA events, camps, matches etc. If your team found them, I think colleges are smart enough to do the same.

Play there because you want to and you like it. If your trying to justify it…you probably shouldn’t be there. Both great leagues by the way, that’s not the dispute.

So you think that a player standing out in NEP will be looked at in the same way by college coaches as a player that stands out in ECNL or GA? College coaches just ignore the level of play in the various leagues? If that were the case, why don’t we see a parade of kids every year that go from high school soccer to P5 programs without ever playing club? At college ID camps, why do coaches often break up the group based on the league the kids play in?

Playing a lower level league definitely will raise eyebrows if you're aiming for higher level programs. It's not that it can't be overcome but you will have more to prove. For lower level programs then no it doesn't "have" to be ECNL.

Coaches know the level of play in ECNL and even to a certain extent GAL is faster, stronger and in general better prep for college soccer. If coaches can find what they need with the one stop shopping at ECNL or GAL events then they'll do the bulk of their shopping there. If their programs aren't high level then they definitely will still hit events like Jeff Cup etc. ECNL and GAL can't fill all the spots out there.

Coaches know that many players do not logistically have access to clubs in the ECNL league. As long as your player plays in the highest league in driving distance to where you live they will hear about you. Can’t expect players to move near Lancaster to play in the ECNL .

Yes of course they know. They also know not all teams or clubs in the higher leagues are good. But I agree with the poster you responded to that you will have more to prove, that you're ready for the much faster paced college game. Y

If you live in MA, a small state with 2 ECNL options (and 2 GA options), college coaches will absolutely wonder why you are playing at a lower level. Sorry, but that’s the truth.

One ECNL option Stars. Much of the state cannot get to practices in Lancaster! What is the families from the Cape or western mass to do? Scorpions is not even close to SELECT or NEFC. I’m not driving from the Cape to Scorpions just to say we are on an ECNL team. Nope. You might hate Select but, they are much stronger and better coaching than Scorpions. I’ll choose GA if Scorpions my only choice.
