Ah yes. There are always conditions. When you’re beating that ECNL drum, it’s usually the be all, end all. The pathway, the pathway. Then when those ECNL teams fall to an NPL team, it’s, oh those are weak teams. Either ECNL is superior or it’s not. Spoiler alert: just like every other league out there, some teams are good, some aren’t. Some players are good, some aren’t. Stop acting like the patch is an express pass to D1 soccer. Nowhere in my post did I “act like the patch is an express pass to D1 soccer”. Of course there are “bad” teams in every league. I’m sure you come across them in Impact (Stars 5th team isn’t giving Aztec a good game). But if you’re going to switch from “look at us, we beat an ECNL team!”, to college recruiting, then I would hope that you understand that colleges recruit players, not teams. The league and club are in charge of getting kids exposure (at showcases and tournaments) and the rest is up to the kid. ECNL clubs use the Jefferson Cup and all other showcases as just that a showcase. All other clubs use them as a chance to beat an ECNL club. ECNL clubs showcase their players hence the reason they go to much better schools and get a lot more $$$ than others. Enjoy winning a game here and there but … you still lose in the long runComment

People can say whatever they want in any direction about any club/league, but it seems like there's a pretty simple endgame on the college question for this 2007 thread-- in 2024-2025 just count up the offers from the various clubs and then see how everyone's boasting worked out for them. See if all those drained club fee/travel budgets got people what they wanted.Comment

In this region, ECLR teams are literally former NPL teams that were given a new name and a new patch, and here we have someone who feels that automatically bumped them two spots in the food chain. Not mutually exclusive, but the priority is clear. At a showcase, you’re more likely to see more equal PT and even different starting lineups game to game with teams that are (correctly) focused on getting kids seen. A club coach that doesn't give the roster half a game at a showcase is going to face the fury of parents. College exposure is a club's bread and butter. Some teams have deeper benches than others and that can show when you're not keeping your top starters in for a whole game. No showcasing and winning don't have to be mutually exclusive but play the games again with the top players and close games could be different. Also as much as ECNL tries to match up teams based on skill level, they definitely don't get it right.
