GAL is going to be a disaster. The NW, SE & Frontier divisions are going to require plane trips or 10 hour drives for regular league games. That is not sustainable. The mid-America conference has already said no high school because the midwest state to state high school seasons don’t align. Watch for the NE teams to try to pull the same crap.

The whole purpose for these national leagues is college showcases, and with the travel restrictions after this virus ECNL showcases will be one stop shopping. USSF just went head to head with ECNL and failed miserably. If GAL ever gained traction, ECNL would grab 8-10 GAL clubs and effectively kill the league.

Having 40% less scholorship money for the next 2 to 4 years is a bummer.

For clubs what matters is fewer families with $ for extras like pricey travel soccer. Add in fewer opportunities and it isn't going to be pretty for awhile

Here is how it works. Sally’s parents know Sally is a really good player. Really good players are heading to ECNL. Sally’s parents keep smiling at Becky & Mia’s parents from their existing team. Meanwhile Sally’s parents are working the phones, talking her up and having parents they know on team X put in a good word for Sally.

Bingo. Sally finds a new home, but keeps it secret so not to upset Becky & Mia’s parents until the last possible minute. Meanwhile, they are secretly trying to recruit Lucy to the new team too, because she is even better than Sally, and they want the new team to be really good.

And you know nothing about it because you are Becky & Mia’s parents.

So a season will go by like that, but next time you see my little Mia she will be 2 inches taller than Sally or Lucy who will now be on the ECNL-regional team because they can't compete physically. IN fact they will both drop out of youth soccer because they have not met the expectations of their overly ambitious parents.

Puberty does play a roll, and some kids will emerge, but the idea that the better players at 10/11/12 fall off a cliff in large numbers isn’t reality. Coaches certainly make mistakes on players, and there is some movement between teams, but in most cases the A/B placement is for a reason.

If a player on the B team develops and would start on A, they will move up, but Clubs won’t usually move a B team kid up to come off the bench, it’s better to start on B.

Oakwood players are 07s but reportedly playing with 06s.
