Not sure if you know how NPL A works? You can't just put WUP or whoever in there. Those clubs hold the NPL license. That's who is in NPL A across all the age groups. Other teams can be promoted into NPL B.

The prior poster wasn't taking his or her best guess. That is literally who is in NPL A.

Don't know why this upsets people. No different than a team holding an ECNL or DA spot.

      Tragedy!
Oh, the injustice of it all...

If the best teams are prohibited from riding to the top, it’s a weak league and bad foe soccer.
Relegation and promotion makes a truly competitive league. The rest is bs.

Any truth to rumors that NPL May be restructured for upcoming fall season. Possibly the inclusion of some NY teams into the traditionally New England league

Under the current structure that is true however A and B does not denote quality but rather bracket name; so you could call it anything you want. It goes back to the NPL expansion that took place a few years ago which opened up NPL league to more clubs then the major ones. That being said agree put the best together. Spol and gps is a good battle I’ll take it gps this year as the winner of the two but I’m biased ;)

Maybe, but how is it different than GDA and ECNL only allowing certain clubs in? One could argue that at least NPL gives a chance to clubs that don't hold the license by having NPL B, who can win in playoffs. Good luck getting GDA to allow that to happen.

The youth soccer system isn't set up to put the best teams against it each other. They're divided up in multiple leagues. It's not an issue unique to NPL.

Ugh. I hope not. Turned down NEGDL as I don't need to drive 4 hours for my 12 year old to play soccer.

Why would you want those not going through the education process/licensing to have that ability? GDA would never let that happen. That's high school. No licensing needed to coach. Going through the process does not guarantee good coaching, but at least you know they are supposed to know.

Also, outside of NE, NPL is very weak. Maybe a licensing requirement would help bring in the youth talent from the other states. An NE/NY merge in NPL would be good.

And that’s whats wrong with it. You should be playing the best competition, or you are not really getting the best experience.

Supposed to know doesn’t cut it. The best should compete with the best. Promotion/Relegation is necessary to ensure players are being adequately challenged in games. Otherwise , what’s the poin. All the other stuff, ie development, should be occurring in training.

Not arguing that point, but this is a youth soccer issue, NOT an NPL issue.

Kid is playing NPL B bracket and I’m fine with that although I am surprised how many people did not ask that question before signing up for the season since it’s not new information or any big secret on how NPL is set up.

Another parent told me that NPL B is not eligible for NPL nationals as nationals is for I guess that grandfathered in A bracket. Is that true? I regret not asking our club that question. Anyone know?

In youth soccer there's a title and trophy for everyone

For girls the top 2 NPL B teams at end of season play top 2 NPL
A teams in semi and final. Winner goes to Nationals. Used to be
that winner of A automatically went to Nationals.
