Reality check. It would be kind of dumb if the top kids and their parents weren’t at least thinking about switching given the state of GA vs ECNL. Maybe they decide to stay for one reason or another but the old “these girl have been together for so long and it’s sooo cute” doesn’t cut it anymore.

Ill bet one is the girls who attends Stars trainings every spring for the last few years in case she gets cut from the team she has a back up plan. Smart.

It's always good to have a back up plan. Things happen - teams or clubs implode, leagues fall off a cliff (GAL this year?). Coach is a disaster. Or you may decide your kid's current team just isn't a good fit any longer. It's something that should be considered every year at this time. Don't wait to scramble at official tryout season. It's too late for the top teams at that point - they already invited players to practices and given offers.

NEFC dad-hopefully you and your daughter have a backup plan when DA, whoops I mean GAL/DPL goes under in the next year or 2. Although, maybe they can just change the name to PA or HA or maybe BA. Afterall there is still alot of A's after DA and GA have been used.

forget leagues for NEFC. My suggestion is for NEFC to just play Oakwood, Seacoast, Cedar Stars and Select every weekend so at least NEFC dad can brag that his daughter's team has a great record....oh yah and for good record let's throw in some 08 teams as well. NEFC certainly likes to take the easy road.

My kid is older and plays ECNL but wanted to chime in about people bashing GA. I don’t see the league as a bad one. It looks to me like they have good leadership, well organized, players being called up to national team camps, plans for tournaments, competitive matches... I personally know of many strong players who play for GA. A part of me can’t help but think this is a tactic by ECNL club owners to undermine this league because they see them as a threat. For a long time, ECNL was the only pathway, but not anymore. GA players will have the same opportunities given to ECNL players. As someone previously stated, nice to have choices. Especially since ECNL isn’t an option for some and they shut many players out.

I would agree with you 3 years that DA had a chance to be a competitor to ECNL and most parents were good with that. Once DA tanked sooooo quickly last March and GAL/DPL was formed quickly as a saving grace for club directors....all bets were off. Hoping for GAL/DPL to succeed but....???????????NOT looking so good for sure.

In the next 60 days or ECNL is going to accept the last few marquee GA clubs into ECNL and cut off the legs of that league.

dude, no offense, but as a poster just said, maybe when the league was called DA it was a strong competitor to ECNL for sure but GAL/DPL is a rudderless ship looking for a safe place to land before it crashes. You are telling me the teams that GAL/DPL added are going to be equal to Tophat and FC Virginia?? GAL/DPL only added another(average)Georgia club because they know Tophat is gone.

Unfortunately, for NEFC they are stuck in mud in GAL/DPL with nowhere to go other than beating up on Seacoast, Oakwood and Select.

What do you mean I might not like it? I'm simply reading the situation. Do you think that, just maybe, the timing of these GA announcements has to do with getting out in front of impending departures?

What do you mean I might not like it? I'm simply reading the situation. Do you think that, just maybe, the timing of these GA announcements has to do with getting out in front of impending departures?

When the additions and subtractions are complete going into next year, in my view, you'll have ECNL and GA (NPL by a different name). No disrespect intended, that is just my opinion on where things are headed.

I'd like GA to succeed but have to admit that for now, and probably the near/medium term future, it's not really close to ECNL in terms of overall competition or opportunity for exposure. It's a fine league for what it is but it isn't ECNL. The question for our kids is does it matter? That depends on the kid and their goals.

Aside from 2007 NEFC GA, DPL in New England is a stronger group of 2007 teams than GA.

There's plenty of people (most?) who would choose local travel. You're basically telling GA to stop trying to be ECNL but to instead create a super strong local league. If you're kid wants the best interstate competition let them go play at an ECNL club but for most a great more local league would be a good choice.
