I am an ECNL dad and see no issue with this, it is very reasonable thinking that if his daughter is happy and developing there is no need for any change.

According to all the Dads here only ECNL players get into college especially D1. This is such a misrepresentation of the truth. BTW there's ECNL players at the DIII level

        I’ll go with both.
I'm an ECNL parent and I don't care at all that someone decides to go a different route. But I am curious why the person is anti-Stars and doesn't like Scorpions. In my experience, when it all comes down to it, most of these clubs operate in pretty much the same way and the biggest differentiators for any particular kid's experience are the coach, the teammates and the league (the overall platform) - probably in that order with the league becoming increasingly important through recruiting years if your kid wants to go to college. So honestly, I don't have much a "club" view. NEFC, Stars, Scorpions, SSS - doesn't matter to me. I'm not pro or anti any of them. Tell me what my kid's situation will be and then I'll tell you whether it's good or bad for her regardless of the club.

Amen. If the local kids playing in college were only coming from Stars and Scorpions that would be one thing, but they come from other clubs, too. ECNL may provide a good avenue to playing in college but it’s just one of several.

Poster clearly had an agenda. Dislikes both ECNL clubs, but guarantee he’s never had his player practice with those teams. Plus, anytime someone refers to a league as not believing in “the badge” it’s just so transparent.

That’s a fair question. You might have even answered it yourself - coach, teammates, platform. Perhaps the OP sees platform being less a factor than you. Maybe it’s the coaches and players on those teams that don’t appeal to the OP. You may disagree, but as you mentioned, it’s about making a personal choice that aligns with you child’s goals.

I agree that “the badge” is a silly take. I have yet to meet an ECNL parent that cares about a badge. They tend to care about their kids’ improvement as soccer players and opportunities to be seen by college coaches when the time comes. That said, I don’t think the poster had any agenda beyond explaining why he and his kid are not drawn to ECNL.

I’ve never seen anyone argue that ECNL is the only route to college soccer. To do so would be nonsensical. But is there any doubt at all that it is the best route in the current landscape?

The ECNL sends 80-90% of its players on to college. We don’t know yet what the numbers will be for GA. So, it’s fair to call ECNL the best. The sentiment on this board tends to be more of “if you aren’t in ECNL, you’ll be a needle in a haystack for college coaches” or “you have to be a stud if you don’t play in ECNL” than “the ECNL is one of several ways to play in college and has a longer track record and higher rate of placement than the others.” You’re giving your fellow posters far too much credit.

                      1. First and foremost, how much will covid impact the spring season and tournaments like Jefferson Cup, as well as the local MA events? In past years most of the top MA teams have all headed to VA in March, NEFC aside.

I think things get back to normal ish by Memorial Day, but doubt we can travel by March to VA.

                      2. Will there be more clubs switching leagues this spring for the 21-22 season? ECNL will likely expand and grab a few top GA clubs, but will any of them come from the North East?

ECNL expansion is coming. Top GA clubs going to get added IMO.

                      3. Will the GA expand to add any MA DPL clubs such as Aztec, Liverpool or SPOL?

Going to have to in order to stay viable. But locally will depend on if any north east teams will get added.

                      4. Will the ECNL clubs add any of the GA players at the 2007 ages? Historically the big jump year is heading into 9th grade.

I’d be very surprised if they didn’t.

                      5. Will EDP continue to grow in New England and further weaken NEP and/or pull some DPL clubs?

I think so. EDP will eventually wipe out NEP.

                      6. Will we continue to have a tight top five of NEFC, Select, Scorpions, Stars Blue and Stars White, or will one or two separate themselves?

For the spring, probably not. For U15 I’d expect the ecnl teams to continue to strengthen.

Curious what the list teams are doing for practices over the next few months? Are your teams off or still practicing indoors all winter? If so, how often?

Practice is done till Jan, once a week futsal is all we are doing.

(Non-list team) done until Jan then indoor practices start up.

Scorpions are off last two weeks of December (except for once a week futsal) and then back to practice x2 plus another night of futsal as of first week of January.
